Due to no fault of his own, Tucker is back with us looking for his forever home. While we know his return has nothing to do with him, it’s still one of the hard parts in rescue when we have to take one of our own back in. He had already lost his person, and we just want the best for him 🤎

Hello, future best friend! I'm Rikki Tikki Tavi, a handsome tabby gentleman whose love language is constant physical affection. If you're sitting down, congratulations—I've already claimed your lap. If you're lying down? Even better. I firmly believe there's no such thing as too much cuddling.

🐾 WHY IS IT DANGEROUS FOR A CAT TO ROAM OUTSIDE? 🐾

We know some cats love sitting at the window, watching birds, and dreaming about the great outdoors. But there is a big difference between enjoying the sights and sounds of outside and being left/allowed to roam freely.

Even a cat who has always come home can encounter dangers that are completely outside their control.

🚗 Cars & traffic
Cats don't understand roads, blind spots, or how quickly a vehicle can approach. And some people don't mind hitting an animal.

🐕 Dogs & other animals
Loose dogs, wildlife, and even other cats can seriously injure or kill a roaming cat.

🦠 Disease & parasites
Outdoor cats have increased exposure to fleas, ticks, intestinal parasites, contagious diseases, and illnesses spread through bites and scratches.

☠️ Poisons & toxins
Antifreeze, pesticides, rodent poison, chemicals, toxic plants, and other substances can be deadly. A cat doesn't need to intentionally eat something poisonous to be exposed.

🔫 People
Unfortunately, not everyone is kind to animals. Cats can be intentionally harmed, trapped, stolen, or simply taken in by someone who assumes they are homeless.

🐾 Getting lost
Cats can wander farther than you might expect. Being familiar with their own yard doesn't mean they'll always be able to find their way home.

🌧️ Weather & the environment
Extreme heat, cold, storms, flooding, and other environmental hazards can quickly become life-threatening.

🐈 Other cats
Territorial fights can result in serious wounds, abscesses, and disease transmission. And an unaltered cat can contribute to unwanted litters surprisingly quickly (starting at 4 months).

And perhaps one of the biggest misconceptions:

"But my cat always comes home."

That's great... until the day they don't.

A cat can be perfectly healthy, familiar with their surroundings, and still be hit by a car, attacked by an animal, poisoned, become lost, or simply disappear.

The good news? Cats don't have to miss out on the outdoors! ❤️

🪟 Screened windows and porches
🐾 Harness and leash training
🎣 Plenty of indoor enrichment, climbing spaces, toys, and window perches

Keeping a cat indoors isn't about keeping them from having a life.
