SEPTEMBER IS PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH and right here in Cherokee County, we’re stepping up to make sure men’s health gets the spotlight it deserves.

For years, we’ve watched and admired how the breast cancer community turned October pink, made screening normal, and saved countless lives. They are out women's health heroes. It’s time we bring that exact same energy to the men we care about—our dads, husbands, brothers, and friends.

Blue Ribbon CHEROKEE isn't a national group—we are 100% homegrown, neighbor-to-neighbor, and strictly **“no-ask.”** We don’t ask for donations, sell raffle tickets, or charge dues. Our only mission is clear education and early screening.

We’ve already seen what happens when our community shows up together—from 96 amazing players at our ladies’ golf scramble to great conversations with families across local events and farmers markets. But we're just getting started, and we're planning even bigger efforts across the county because when caught early, prostate cancer has a survival rate of 99%.

Ultimately, this is about his father—and our desire to get the vital message across that early detection saves lives. While 1 in 8 men will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime, there is a **99% survival rate** when it is caught early. You can bet that stat means everything in this little boy's life.

That is why Bill Fincher volunteered to come out, set up early, and help deliver that message to folks across the Canton Farmers Market today. 💙

We had a really good morning at the Canton Farmers Market in Brown Park. 💙

Bill Fincher and his friend David Shirley were there early to help get the canopy set up, and CandlerShelley Howell (Candler Howell) did a wonderful job inviting folks over to spin the wheel. My wife, Mary Beth, woke up with sore fingers this morning after assembling 50 whirlygigs for the booth, but the kids absolutely loved them. She also handed out treats to all the four-legged visitors—you wouldn't believe how many dogs were out there today, from handheld pups to giant ones—and that brought plenty of owners over to our table for good conversations about men’s health and early screening.

A big thank-you goes to Greg Brooks and Menchie's Frozen Yogurt. Our partnership with Greg was huge today, providing gift certificates that served as the grand prize on our spinning wheel.

We also enjoyed visiting with Bonny Spears and her husband Jeff over at the Relay for Life tent. I always admire the energy Bonny brings to supporting cancer patients and survivors in our area. Hats off as well to Velinda Hardy, who does a wonderful job promoting and running these Saturday markets for the City of Canton throughout the growing and harvesting season.

Simple interactions like these make it easy to talk about prostate cancer awareness and early detection. Thanks to everyone who stopped by! 💙

💙 **Blue Ribbon CHEROKEE was proud to be part of the 13th Annual Chick-fil-A Cherokee County 5K (“Moo’ve It” 5K) at Etowah River Park!** 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️

Our morning kicked off bright and early at 5:45 AM setting up our canopy and getting ready to welcome the community. Throughout the morning, we connected with hundreds of runners and families, handing out **500 Honey Stinger energy waffles**, early detection educational cards, awareness wristbands, and blue ribbons.

A huge, special thank-you goes out to:

* **Bill Fincher** for stepping up and arriving at 5:45 AM to help with the heavy lifting and setup.
* **Candler Howell**, our dedicated board member, for spending the morning meeting, greeting, and championing our message.
* **Credit Union of Georgia** for generously providing our custom branded canopy and tablecloth, giving us a top-tier visual presence.

With September being **Prostate Cancer Awareness Month**, every conversation we have and every card we hand out helps keep early screening top of mind across Cherokee County. Early detection saves lives! 💙

The Inaugural Blue Ribbon Ladies Scramble at Fairways of Canton was an overwhelming success, and we couldn’t be more grateful.

With 96 amazing players filling the course, the energy, camaraderie, and support were unmatched from the moment registration opened. Players from nine golf courses participated.

To our incredible team of volunteers and board members who stepped up at registration, out on the course, behind the cameras, and behind the scenes: Thank You. You made the entire day run seamlessly.

As the very first official event staged by Blue Ribbon CHEROKEE, this tournament marked an inspiring kickoff as we head into Prostate Cancer Awareness Month this September.

1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Our mission is simple: start conversations, encourage early screening, and honor the loved ones we’ve lost. If our efforts can help save just one man in Cherokee County, every bit of hard work is worth it—and together, we are going to save a lot more than one.

We’re gearing up for a busy fall stretch of "being seen" at local festivals and events throughout late August and September. September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which is the heart of our health initiative—bringing early detection education directly to Cherokee County.

A huge thank you to Alan Thompson (retired) for generously donating his time, marketing expertise, and graphic design talent to this project.
