The first-ever Northern Nevada Bird Fest happening TOMORROW, October 3, 2026.

Stop by the Washoe Lake State Park Group Use Area between 10am-2pm. Explore Art Vendors, learn from hands-on activities, and celebrate Northern Nevada’s birds with the organizations that help protect them.

While enjoying burgers, dogs, and grilled cheese from the at the pavilion, listen to bird-themed presentations starting at 10:30am every half hour.

🏔️ Celebrating National Public Lands Day!

This Saturday, September 26, in honor of National Public Lands Day, all Nevada State Parks will waive fees for entry, camping and boating!

Looking for something fun to do? Here are a few ways to make the most of your state park adventure:

- enjoy the West backcountry at Spooner Lake State Park with the reopening of the trails and Marlette Lake!

- Join a Park Ranger at Fort Churchill State Historic Park for a night hike learning all about the wildlife. Registration is required.

- Enjoy some coffee with a Park Ranger at Ice Age Fossils State Park and all the questions you’ve been wanting to know.

- or give back and volunteer at Spring Mountain Ramch State Park. Help clean up the group use area after a busy summer.

Please note: Reservation fees and utility fees are not included. Visitors who have already made a reservation will receive an automatic refund for applicable entry and camping fees.

Nevada State Parks, Nevada Department of Wildlife, Carson City Parks, Recreation & Open Space, and the Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance are partnering to bring you the first-ever Northern Nevada Bird Fest!

Join us at Washoe Lake State Park on Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 10am-2pm for fun talks, bird walks, activities, art, and more!

🎃 Spooky Harbor is back for its 5th annual celebration at Sand Harbor State Park!

Join us for seven nights of movies under the stars, plus a Kids Fall Festival and Día de los Mu***os celebration.

Oct. 9: Hocus Pocus
Oct. 16: I Know What You Did Last Summer
Oct. 23: Kids Fall Festival + Monster House

Movies begin approximately 30 minutes after sunset on the Sand Harbor Stage. The events are free with standard park entrance fees.

Bring a blanket, low-back chair, flashlight and warm clothes, and get ready for Halloween by the lake!

Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Advisory LIFTED 🎉

As of September 16, 2026, no visual evidence of a Harmful Algal Bloom has been observed in Washoe Lake.

The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection (NDEP) has recommended lifting the HAB advisory.

HAB conditions can change unexpectedly. Always check the water for signs of a possible bloom before allowing pets or children to get in.
