Mark 11:12-21

Jesus sees a fig tree with leaves. He goes to it looking for fruit, but there isn't any. So Jesus says the tree will never produce fruit again. The next day, the disciples see that the fig tree has withered from the roots.

At first, this seems like a strange moment in Jesus' ministry, but look at what surrounds the story - Jesus clearing the temple.

The fig tree becomes a picture of something that looks alive but produces no fruit.

It's possible to look spiritually healthy on the outside while producing very little spiritual fruit underneath.

Jesus isn't interested in appearances; He wants the fruit.

You can go through hard things and still have joy that no man can take away.
