How Helicopter Tail Rotors Prevent Spinning
Without a tail rotor, a helicopter would spin uncontrollably. The main rotor creates torque that tries to rotate the fuselage in the opposite direction. The tail rotor generates sideways thrust that counters this force and keeps the helicopter stable.
06/20/2026
Unlike airplanes, helicopters don't use engine thrust for lift. Instead, the engine powers a transmission system that turns the rotor blades. Energy travels through driveshafts, gearboxes, and rotor hubs before reaching the blades. This complex system allows helicopters to hover, move sideways, and land almost anywhere.
