Hawaii is one of those trips where a little research beforehand can make a HUGE difference 🌺

There’s so much more to each island than the places that show up first when you start planning. Some of our favorite experiences have been the ones that got us away from the busiest areas and gave us a chance to actually explore.

And honestly, you don’t need a picture-perfect, perfectly planned itinerary to have an amazing trip here. Leave yourself some room to wander, check the conditions before heading into the water, and don’t underestimate how much there is to see.

First time visiting Oahu? Save this BEFORE you go 🌺👇🏼

After spending time exploring Oahu, these are the things I’d tell every first-time visitor:

🌴 Don’t stay in Waikiki the entire trip. It’s a great home base, but some of the best experiences are outside of Waikiki.

🚗 Don’t try to see the whole island in one day. Oahu may look small on a map, but traffic + driving time can eat up your entire day.

🌊 Don’t rush the North Shore. There’s enough to see, eat, explore and photograph that it deserves more than a quick stop.

🎟️ Book popular activities ahead of time. Pearl Harbor and Kualoa Ranch are two I would NOT leave until the last minute.

🏖️ Don’t assume every beach is a swimming beach. Ocean conditions can change quickly, so always check before getting in.

🍜 Get outside Waikiki for food. Some of our favorite meals and stops were nowhere near the main tourist area.

✨ And leave some room for spontaneity. You don’t need every hour planned. Some of the best Oahu moments happen when you take the random turn or stop because something looks interesting.

Oahu is SO much more than Waikiki, and honestly, that’s what makes it worth coming back for. 🌺
