3D Golf Swing Analysis, Instruction, Fitness Training
I usually tell people to stop thinking of “turning” in their swing. It causes more harm than good typically. However, the concept of how to turn can help get people started on the right track. Simply put: think Ferris wheel, not merry go round.
This is absolutely NOT the way to fix your over the top issues. I see this way of getting to the inside cause more harm than good in the long run. Yes, you may “fix” the over the top problem, but you just added several other issues that will lead to even more frustration. Get a free evaluation on the Skillest app from me, and let’s fix your golf swing the right way.
Everyone’s a little different but I would definitely recommend for most to start with a little more pressure on the lead foot at your set up. This helps you trigger right into your trail leg much more naturally. Remember, the golf swing is a very athletic movement, so look at other sports or motions that you can relate to sometimes to find answers.
An easy way to better putting tempo and rythmn. A longer backstroke will force you to find a smoother tempo. Do this for your mid range or long range putts and you will see much better flow and consistency.
I’d say I see this in 90% or more of my students. Make your practice swings and rehearsals functional with the club face! Leaving the face wide open is training your brain to simply do such a thing through impact. Square the club to impact in your rehearsals and you’ll see much quicker results.
This is a big one! So many golfers seem to be scared of holding the club “too tight.” But also, when they apply more grip pressure, everything else seemingly locks up. Just because you have control of the club does not mean your wrists and arms need to be stiff and tense. We don’t do that throwing a football, hitting a baseball, hitting a forehand in tennis…so why is golf any different? Gain control without reducing your freedom and your game will instantly see improvement.
In lots of cases, thinking opposite will actually help promote what you want to learn. It seems crazy at first, but put yourself in a position that you think “will make things worse.” You’ll actually starting learning better.
Anyone can find a way to get in a certain position in the golf swing. The key is finding movement to produce that position “naturally.” To summarize, you can forcefully put your arms into an extended position after impact (bad) OR you can try to figure out how to move your body and the club in the downswing where after impact your arms simply end up in the position you want (good).
Just a basic that I get asked about a lot. There’s no perfect answer, it’s just a matter of knowing what you need. Obviously it will vary by the club, but hopefully you at least know what the pro and con is for a wider or narrower stance. Simple, but can make a big difference.
A chicken wing after impact drives golfers crazy; but it’s usually a reaction to something. Focusing on the symptom of chicken winging, and not what’s actually causing it can cause more problems in the long run. Look into what’s causing it; likely poor sequencing, lack of natural rotation, or poor positioning in the downswing.
