Saving homeless cats by reducing their number via Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and adoption in Chattanooga, TN.

Please share! It's time for an update on the three-legged community kitty who had her ruptured eye removed and had a spay-abort a few weeks ago. Officially introducing Athena. 🩷

We originally weren't sure if she was friendly or not, but we knew it would not be safe to return her outdoors to a parking lot behind a Food City. Luckily, Judy with Friends of Greybeard, Inc. took her in to assess whether she was friendly enough for an indoor forever home or whether a safe barn home would be more appropriate.

We are thrilled to share that Athena is friendly and adoptable! 🥹 She's doing very well in foster care and has turned into such an affectionate kitty. We want her to have one more visit to the vet to make sure she is fully recovered and healthy prior to being ready for her forever indoor home.

Please stay tuned and keep the well wishes coming for this brave girl. ❤️‍🩹

Miss Lala (now named Zazel) and Fernando have officially been adopted! 🩷💙

These precious siblings were rescued after being found in a car engine when they were only a few weeks old.

Their adoption story is quite unique. Their new mom, Sara, came to support one of her friends at a meet and greet for another kitty of ours. Sara was loosely looking for a bonded pair of kitties, but wanted to make sure they would get along with her pair of doggies. She met these two kittens and fell in love!

We decided a foster to adopt situation would be best to ensure both the kitties and doggies would be happy together. After two weeks of an adoption trial, everyone is settled in beautifully and getting along great. Sara made the adoption official today! Happy trails, precious babies. 😻

Fall is in the air, which means it's the perfect time to start thinking about winter cat shelters! 🍃☀️

One of our volunteers and her husband spent their Caturday making winter cat shelters and filling them with straw. They also delivered some to a caretaker where we recently TNR'd her whole colony and cleaned up and refreshed some shelters at one of our managed colonies.

Another volunteer delivered shelters today to two colonies where we TNR'd earlier this year. These are going to be some cozy community kitties in the upcoming cold months! ❤️

We wanted to share some tips for winter shelters if you're caring for community kitties. Always use straw, as it helps insulate the shelter and keeps moisture away. Never use hay (it can mold) or blankets (they can get wet and freeze). We recommend using one entry hole in the shelter that is about 5-6 inches in diameter.

It's best to keep the shelters away from the cats' eating area. You also want to put something heavy on top of the shelter to keep it from tipping over with a cat inside and trapping them inside. Finally, make sure to periodically clean out the shelter (bees and ants can make nests when not monitored) and add more straw as needed. 🐾

Happy Caturday! One of our amazing volunteers rescued another eight kitties from a new TNR project this week! 😻

This is the same colony where we spayed/neutered three cats earlier this week, with two now in foster care with Friends of Greybeard, Inc. and one returned to the colony. It's also where Annabelle gave birth in her trap at McKamey Animal Center.

Introducing Jojo! 💙 The adorable five-month-old Jojo kept going into our traps on Trapping Tuesday. He constantly rubbed himself all over his elderly caretaker's legs. She was scared of tripping over him and knew such a friendly kitty deserved a safe life indoors. We will have him neutered and fully vetted the first week of October, and then he'll be available for adoption!

Then, this beautiful mama and her six two-week-old babies were taken today by our friends at Pet Placement Center—TN Humane Animal League from the colony. They will go to a foster home where they'll be spoiled and then fixed once they're big enough. After that, they'll be available for adoption into their own forever families. 🥹

It's been a busy week, and kitten season is still not over! We are so thankful for our lifesaving volunteers and the partnerships we have with our local shelters! Teamwork makes the dream work. ❤️

Meet Sarge, the kitten who fell out of a car engine and into the right parking lot. Our volunteer recently rescued Sarge when he showed up at the front door of her place of employment (the VA clinic).

Multiple coworkers reached out to our volunteer for help, and she ended up taking Sarge into foster. He is the most loving and adorable kitten. 🩶

Sarge had a little bit of an upper respiratory infection and road rash, but thanks to his foster mom and a trip to the vet, he's recovering nicely. ❤️‍🩹 He will be neutered next week, and once he's fully healed and ready, he will ready for his forever home.

And the best part? Sarge already has an adopter waiting for him! We love a happy ending! 🥰

Introducing Annabelle and her new kittens. 🖤

Our focus is on TNR for outdoor community cats, and we do everything we can to prevent more kittens being born outside. But this beautiful girl gave birth in the trap at the vet clinic while waiting for her spay surgery on Wednesday morning. 🙀

Thankfully, this doesn't happen very often for us (the last time was in November 2025), but it's still a shock and a scramble when it does. Annabelle's colony caretaker is elderly and cannot take her inside. We also recently rescued three new kitties, so we did not have any openings in a foster home.

We are very grateful that McKamey Animal Center has agreed to take in the whole family. Without further ado, meet Annabelle and her new babies: Laurie, Krueger, Freddy, and Carrie. They will eventually all be available for adoption once they are big enough to be spayed/neutered and vaccinated. And Annabelle will officially be part of the last litter club. ❤️

It was another busy and successful Trapping Tuesday with 11 community kitties trapped! 🪤

Of that total, nine were spayed/neutered, vaccinated (rabies & FVRCP), and flea treated/dewormed on Wednesday. Two of those nine kitties are now being assessed by our friend Judy at Friends of Greybeard, Inc. to determine if they are adoptable.

Additionally, one of the 11 kitties was surrendered to our friends at the Humane Educational Society to officially wrap up our massive lakefront TNR project! This was kitty #46 helped at that colony.

And finally, while we do everything we can to prevent more kittens being born, one of the cats delivered four kittens in her trap while waiting for her spay appointment at the vet clinic. 🙀 Thankfully, it's been almost a year since this has happened.

McKamey Animal Center has agreed to take in the whole family, since momma is so sweet and their caretaker is elderly. Also, we've taken in three cats in the last week and are out of foster space, so we are incredibly grateful for their help. We will be making a special post to introduce this family soon. ❤️

We are freaking pumped to share that after two months, we have officially completed a massive TNR project near the lake, with 46 kitties helped in total! 🙌🏼

This was a huge undertaking. A couple of our volunteers spent countless hours (and sweated a lot 🥵 in the summer heat) helping 32 adult cats and teenagers get spayed/neutered, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed, and ear tipped.

We also trapped and surrendered 14 kittens to our friends at The Humane Educational Society so they could head to foster homes, get fully vetted, and have a chance at finding their forever indoor homes.

The two colony caretakers know to contact us ASAP if any new, intact kitties show up so we can help keep this colony from growing any further.

TNR works, and we have the best volunteers and supporters! ❤️

Please share! Officially introducing Sureto (boy on the left) and Kemui (girl on the right), who are now available for adoption together! ❤️

These very sweet half-siblings came from a TNR project when they were only four weeks old.

Sureto and Kemui have come a long way in the two months they've been in a foster home. They now love to play and want pets all the time! Their super short coats are also easy to care for.

They would make a great pair for a quiet home with no small children, as they're still easily frightened by loud noises and quick movements.

These kittens are combo tested, vaccinated, altered, microchipped, and treated for fleas and parasites. We can set up a meet and greet once we approve your adoption application, which can be completed here: https://www.scratchinc.org/adoption. 🐾

Meet Samantha! 🐾

Samantha is approximately one year old and is as sweet and friendly as she is beautiful. She enjoys the company of other cats and would make a wonderful addition to a loving home. 🩷

Samantha is spayed, microchipped, up to date on her vaccinations, and has tested negative for FIV and FeLV. She’s fully vetted and ready to find her forever family!

You can apply to adopt Samantha from the link below: https://www.scratchinc.org/adoption.
