Empowering individuals and transforming communities through professionally led public art projects, with a focus on the underserved

Empowering individuals and transforming communities through professionally led public art projects, with a focus on the under served. As of July 2019, we have served over 2600 individuals with 300 + hours of classroom curriculum resulting in over 70 public art projects. To accomplish this, we've worked with 35 professional artists facilitators to whom we've paid more than $165,000. Magic Markers is a teen compensated work readiness initiative started four years ago and has paid $34,000 to less privileged teens.

For decades, Frances McDonald has used art to create connection, opportunity, and a stronger sense of community for people whose voices are too often overlooked.

Since returning to Chattanooga in 1995, Frances has been an art facilitator for hundreds of children and adults experiencing homelessness, incarceration, and neurodivergent challenges through schools and nonprofit organizations. As the Founder and Executive Director of Mark Making, she continues to create opportunities for people to express themselves, discover their abilities, and make a meaningful mark on their communities.

Her advocacy has also been deeply connected to the AIM Center. Frances has served on the AIM Center Board and, for decades, has provided Members with opportunities to create public art, build connections, and share their creativity with the Chattanooga community.

Through her lifelong commitment to inclusion, creativity, and empowering others, Frances exemplifies what it means to be an Advocacy Hero. Her work reflects the belief at the heart of AIM Center’s mission: that everyone deserves the opportunity to be seen, heard, valued, and empowered to contribute to their community.

As Frances says, “Offering what I can everyday is the key to a successful and meaningful life.”

Join us at The Mental Health Hero Awards as we celebrate Frances and honor her decades of advocacy, creativity, and commitment to our community. ✨

Looking for a dopamine hit?…

The beloved 'HOMES' sculpture in Chattanooga, a powerful symbol of hope created by 300 voices experiencing homelessness, needs our help to be restored. Over time, many of the original tiles have deteriorated, and now we have a chance to bring this landmark back to life while giving new voices a place to be seen and heard.

Thanks to the support so far, we're at 36% of our $9,235 goal, and your help can make a real difference. Every contribution helps us fund artist fees, workshops, and the restoration process, ensuring this
