It’s a quiet Sunday morning here in Chesapeake. Coffee is brewing, our neighborhoods are waking up, and for many of us, home is where we find a little rest from the world. ☕️

“He leads me beside quiet waters, He restores my soul.” — Psalm 23:2–3

Here at Chesapeake Area Shelter Team (CAST), those words remind us how much it means to have a safe place to rest.

For neighbors in our own community experiencing homelessness, that place isn’t always guaranteed. Through CAST, our churches, volunteers and community come together to provide a warm meal, a safe place to sleep and the simple comfort of knowing someone cares.

Sometimes shelter is about more than a roof. It’s about offering a little peace in the middle of a difficult season.

May we continue to be that peaceful place for our neighbors who need it most. 🙏

It is said there are four natural sanctuaries and their purpose is to bring us healing and peace:

Silence
Solitude
Stillness
Simplicity

Each of these is referenced in Scripture:

*Silence
The Lord is in his holy temple; let all the earth be silent before him.
Habakkuk 2: 20

*Solitude
After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.
Matthew 14: 23

*Stillness
Be still in the presence of the Lord,
and wait patiently for him to act.
Don’t worry about evil people who prosper
or fret about their wicked schemes.
Psalm 37: 7

Also:
Be still and know that I am God.
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth!
Psalm 46: 10

Simplicity:
For our boast is this, the testimony of our conscience, that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.
2 Corinthians 1: 12

I pray these thoughts will fill our minds today and will remind us that we can find healing and peace in God's Word.
