Tuesday, August 11th, we will be hosting our annual New Student orientation event. We are just as excited to see your students as they are to get in the building and see friends and meet teachers. We will be having two sessions. The morning session will run 8:30am-12:00pm for students with last names A-M. The afternoon session will run 12:00pm-3:30pm for students with last names N-Z. Morning session will have lunch (pizza/water) 11:30-12:00pm and afternoon session will have lunch 12:00-12:30pm. We do not permit parents/guardians to attend this event however we do have counseling staff available for support if needed.

Students can be dropped off by a guardian or ride a bus from an elementary site. The bus schedule will be shared via parent square (LCSD #1 communication platform) in our August newsletter going out the first week of August. If you have bussing questions, please reach out prior to August 11th. If your student has nutritional needs outside of what is being offered, please feel free to pick up your student prior to the lunch time for the morning session or drop them off after the lunch time for the afternoon session.

We will be requesting students to stay off of their personal electronic devices and be fully present so if you need to contact your student during new student orientation, please call MJHS at 307-221-2650.

Students will be meeting teachers and other staff, participating in teambuilding activities, getting comfortable in the building, getting to know new peers as well as getting to see old ones. Our nurse will also be available on this day for any questions/concerns. Students will not receive schedules until Schedule Pick Up/Registration on August 12th and August 13th.

We will be using the main front doors (North side of the building) for individual student drop off and pick up. We will open doors at 8:30am and 12:00pm for students attending each session.

If you have any additional questions/concerns, please reach out to Associate Principal Deandra Tygret at [email protected].

McCormick Jr. High’s Curtis is LCSD1 Student of the Week for May 4th. CHEYENNE, Wyo. — Curtis Dunlop, a seventh-grade student at McCormick Junior High, was selected as Laramie County School District 1’s Student of the Week for the week of May 4.

Dunlop was selected for his strong work ethic, his positive attitude and the kindness he consistently shows to those around him. His favorite subjects are world geography and English, where he enjoys the way his teachers make learning engaging and meaningful.

Teachers describe Dunlop as a student who not only strives to do his best, but also encourages others to succeed. Others noted his determination when faced with challenges and his ability to approach difficult tasks with confidence and perseverance.
“He’s often the glue that holds a classroom community together,” one teacher shared. “Our school is undeniably a better place because of his presence.”

Outside of school, Dunlop enjoys wrestling and flag football. He also likes playing video games and spending time with his neighbors.

Dunlop selected Luke Vaporis as his favorite teacher, sharing that he enjoys his class because of the humor and fun Vaporis brings into the classroom.
