September is Healthy Aging Month, and staying active is an important part of supporting your health and independence as you get older.
Aging doesn't mean you have to stop moving. In fact, maintaining strength, balance, mobility and coordination can help you continue participating in the activities you enjoy and feel more confident in your everyday movement.
Simple exercises such as walking, light resistance training and balance work can be valuable additions to an active lifestyle. And if you're experiencing pain, weakness, balance concerns or difficulty with certain movements, working with a physical therapist can help you identify areas to address and create an exercise plan that fits your needs.
Healthy aging isn't about trying to move like you're 20 again. It's about keeping your body strong, capable and ready for the life you want to live.

September is National Pain Awareness Month, making it an important time to talk about something many people experience but often learn to live with: persistent pain.
Pain can affect how you move, exercise, work, sleep and participate in the activities you enjoy. While some pain is a normal part of recovery after an injury, ongoing or recurring pain shouldn't always be something you simply push through.
Physical therapy can help identify movement patterns, strength limitations and other factors that may be contributing to your symptoms. Treatment can then be tailored to your individual needs and goals, helping you work toward moving with greater confidence and less discomfort.
If pain has been keeping you from doing the things you enjoy, you don't necessarily have to accept it as your new normal.

🍂 Fall sports are officially underway, which means athletes are back to practices, games, meets and training sessions. With the increase in activity, it’s also a good time to think about injury prevention.
Whether you’re playing soccer, football, running cross country or participating in another fall sport, preparing your body for the demands of your sport can make a big difference. Proper warm-ups, strength training, mobility work, good recovery habits and gradually increasing activity can all help your body handle the season.
And if something doesn’t feel right, don’t ignore it. Pain, weakness or changes in the way you move can be signs that your body needs some extra attention.
At SMART Sports Medicine, our physical therapy team can help athletes recover from injuries, improve movement and build strength so they can get back to doing what they love.
