Splish Splash at the Park!

July 16th,2026 we attended the Dog Days of Summer event at the Bark Park in Frankfort. The park was filled with joy from the awesome pups. We brought our adoptable dogs for a day of fun and got to meet the vendors.

Thank you to the Frankfort Park district that hosted this event, we had a paw-some time.🐾

Happy Birthday America!
While we enjoy the fireworks this year for America's 250th Birthday, we would like to share some tips for your furry friends.

Keep pets indoors at all times, and triple check that all doors, windows and fences are closed. Often times pets get scared of the fireworks and run away, which is why it is very important for your pet to be microchipped. Microchips can be done here at AWL for just $19.95 thru our shot clinic special on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

To keep them comfortable, it is important to provide a fresh bowl of water so they stay hydrated, especially since stress can cause them to pant a lot.

A tip that may help is turning on a radio/ tv for your pet to listen to.

ALERT - WATCH YOUR PETS!

We are asking the community for help identifying a pair of thieves. This past Sunday, these absolute dregs of society took it upon themselves to raid our donation bin and steal several bags of dog food, cat food, canned food, pet beds and even blankets. It is utterly unconscionable to take food from the mouths of animals in need, but these two saw no issue with doing so. At a time when we are desperate for food for our population of homeless animals, the community has been so kind as to donate food and bedding, and these have trampled all over that kindness.

Giving This Mother's Day!

Hi my name is Smuckers and I am a lab mix. I was sadly abandoned by my previous owners, that l thought would always take care of me. I am guessing they left me because l was about to have puppies. I was roaming the streets for days hoping someone could help me. During this time I was very close to having my babies. I was scared that I would have to go through the tough birth process alone. I did meet a few friendly people that wanted to take care of me but l was too scared of getting abandoned again so l just kept running away from them. I then met this friendly man who gave me some good treats and took me to the Animal Welfare League. When I arrived at the AWL, I was greeted with happy faces. I was so excited when they fed me some delicious dog food, soft bedding and some loving care. I instantly felt so much better, since my babies and l did not eat for days. Just a few days later, I gave birth to my babies. As a mother, I am so grateful my babies and I
were able to eat. I hope that all other expecting moms can have the same experience as l did.
