Week one of classes is almost over! Cohort 5 is celebrating their last first day of school. At the start of the new year, they will all be off to their first externship placement! ๐
Today, Cohorts 5 and 6 gathered over pizza for peer mentoring. It was a great day to see first and second year students socializing and learning more about the program from each other. ๐

!!!WE'RE ACCREDITED!!! ๐
We are ecstatic to share that DePaul University's Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology Program has received accreditation status from the Council on Academic Accreditation. ๐
Four cohorts have successfully graduated from, and helped propel our program. We learn as much from them as they do from us. Cohort 5 is preparing to start their first externship rotation in January, and Cohort 6 is starting off strong during their first week of classes.
This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication from all current and prior faculty, support from the College of Science and Health, our Community Advisory Board, and especially not without the commitment, loyal, and steadfast support from our Program Director, Kelly Gillespie, M.S., CCC-SLP. ๐๐ซถโจ

We are thrilled to have you join us, Cohort 6! Now that orientation is over, the real fun begins. You're all officially SLPs in the making. We're excited to see you all thrive and become the next generation of SLPs. Enjoy day one of classes, and remember to take some time to explore, eat lunch, and/or socialize during your midday break. โจ

We are so excited to welcome our new full-time faculty, Dr. Lillian Thompson Brown and Dr. Theresa Moen! ๐
Dr. Lillian Thompson Brown's work focuses on the influence of culture and systemic factors on developmental diagnostic experiences. Her research centers on early autism identification, caregiver and family experiences, and culturally responsive assessment and intervention. Through over a decade of practice, she has worked in schools, hospitals, sub-acute rehabilitation, and long-term care settings.
Dr. Theresa Moenโs work focuses on improving educational experiences for emergent bilingual students and supporting the SLPs who serve them. Her teaching and research are informed by her clinical experience as a bilingual SLP in early childhood settings, with interests in bilingual assessment and intervention, English language learning and special education, and arts-based approaches to student communication and participation.

We are deeply grateful for the incredible generosity and partnership of the Margo Fowler Family Foundation! ๐โจ
This summer, we officially dedicated our group therapy room at the DePaul Speech and Language Clinic in honor of the Foundation. Thanks to their support, this newly dedicated space will continue to be a place where our clients connect, build confidence, and communicate together.
Thank you, Margo Fowler Family Foundation, for believing in our mission and investing in our community! ๐ฃ๏ธ๐

Cohort 6, we are so excited to meet you! Here are some tips from Cohort 5 and they are right; you ARE exactly where you are supposed to be. Your peers, mentors, faculty, and staff are all here to support you. Grad school is a full-time commitment, and please still make time for self-care. ๐๐ค๐ค
When in doubt, take a deep breath. (Brooke also has a drawer full of fidgets and other fun things).
We look forward to meeting you for Orientation on September 4th and 8th! โจ

36 years ago, the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) was passed into law on July 26, 1990. This law prohibits discrimination based on disability status. While some disabilities are visible, many disabilities are invisible to the eye.
In the DePaul Speech and Language Clinic, the graduate students work with a variety of visible and invisble disabilities including Aphasia, Autism Spectrum Disorder, developmental disorders, and more!
