There are different training opportunities you can take advantage of doing everyday. Perfect example, you always have to pick up and throw out your dog’s p**p when they do their business on your walks (unless you’re a scumbag). So why not use that as an opportunity to proof your sit or down stay while you walk to the trash can to toss it out?! You can start by doing this close to the trash can and increase the distance/duration of the stay as your dog advances. P**p Toss Down Stay is one of SLM’s favorite ways to Always.Be.Training.

It is summertime which means good weather for fun outside activities with your dog. With a solid training foundation your dog will be ready to take advantage of new environments and exploring with you. Whether that’s going to a farmers market or having a beach day. Let’s get your dog ready with training so you can enjoy this Chicago summer together!

Bring on the ticks🌾
We love a good trail hike and getting lost in the woods with our dogs but you still need to be careful. Make sure to check yourself as much as your dogs for ticks during this time of year.

Tips for us humans:
• tuck in your clothes
• wear a hat
• braid or put up your hair
• use tick spray
• long socks over your pants is a pro move

For your dogs:
• use tick spray
• comb through your dog’s hair
• tick removal kit
• heart worm/flea medicine
• Lyme disease vaccine
• tick collar

Best way to kill a tick is to burn those suckers!

Train for everyday life🪴
You never know what a casual walk may bring. Maybe you notice a sign and all of the sudden need both hands to hold free plants while walking two dogs at the same time. Training has prepared us for these moments

Lucky to be loved by dogs💜
We all got our dogs for a reason or purpose so don’t forget that they have been with you through everything in life. Good or bad, your dog will be there. Personally, my dog changed my life and career path! There wouldn’t be a SLM if I never got my dog Ronnie. He opened my eyes to my true passion for training and I’m thankful to be doing something I love with him by my side. Make sure you enjoy your time together and cherish all the little moments along the way!
