: Happy Juneteenth Weekend, Affinity Friends!

The Juneteenth holiday commemorates the official end of legal chattel slavery in the U.S., on June 19, 1865. It also emphasizes education, achievement, and the contributions of Black Americans.

Let us never forget the price our recent and distant ancestors paid for their freedom and ours.

Let us remember that human and civil rights are never permanently won.

Let us forever recognize and celebrate Ms. Opal Lee, affectionately called the "Grandmother of Juneteenth." An educator, activist, and pioneer in the Juneteenth movement, she traveled across the country over several decades to teach people about the significance of Juneteenth, and organized education and cultural events with local community members.

Thanks to her unwavering commitment and dedicated advocacy, she and fellow Juneteenth activists succeeded in it becoming a national holiday in 2021.

This weekend is one for refection, restoration, and celebration, and The Chi is poppin' with Juneteenth activities and festivities!
