Say No to the Proposed Protecting Renters Ordinance

Mayor Johnson's PRO ordinance sounds protective. In practice, it adds cost and red tape to every building you own — and City Council could vote on it as soon as September 23.

WHAT PRO MEANS FOR YOUR BUILDING:

Forced lease renewals — even for tenants who harass or endanger their neighbors

Up to $60 per unit in new annual fees — plus a citywide rental registry and a new Bureau of Rental Housing Services

100+ new rules, with steep fines — for paperwork mistakes or missed compliance deadlines

A housing committee meeting as early as this week — with a full vote possible September 23, the Aldermen need to hear from you now.

You cannot make housing more affordable by making it more expensive to provide. Tell the Aldermen to vote no on PRO.

Call or email the Aldermen today — before this week's meeting.

Chicago's Proposed Protecting Renters Ordinance Will Cost You at Every Turn | TAKE ACTION BEFORE SEPTEMBER 23

The proposed Protecting Renters Ordinance (PRO) would add new per-unit fees, a citywide rental registry, and a Bureau of Rental Housing Services with enforcement authority over your building — plus a just-cause provision that can force you to renew a lease even for a tenant who harasses or endangers your other residents.

City Council's housing committee could meet as early as next week, with a full vote possible September 23. The Aldermen need to hear from you now.
