Chef David DeQuay

I was lucky to know that I wanted to be a Chef from early childhood, and traveled to Holland on occasion, where “Oma” saw that I loved being in her kitchen and helping. She had a large vegetable garden, and cooked often with the beautiful fruits and vegetables she grew. This was the beginning of my culinary journey

Growing up in Oyster Bay, New York, I gradually took over making more and more elaborate meals for my family. My Aunt Betty, who was a gourmet cook and traveler, encouraged and supported my desire to make a profession out of it, and helped make the dream of owning my own restaurant a reality in later years. I inherited my passion for food and culinary arts from these two lovely women. All paths have led to today, a refashioning of de Quay Restaurant via private Chef services, Pop-up events, and Catering. As the story has come full circle, I am honored to still love and share my passion for excellent hospitality and delicious, seamlessly executed cuisine. “Gezellig”, in Dutch, means cozy, warm, relaxing, friendly, and comfortable. This is the ultimate goal of my current endeavors.
