More licks to lose your gig!
One of my favorite standards. It’s a contrafact of September in the Rain. Love the original version by Tadd Dameron with John Coltrane.
Play Misty for me
06/03/2026
This month for country night we’ll have kicking things off, followed by and then my trio. Free as always, music starts at 8pm!
Apparently a lot of folks want to get fired from their gigs. Here’s another helpful lick just in time for the weekend. This lick is another pattern based idea using chords a major third apart. I love the way the pattern dovetails back into itself, repeating as long as you want or have room.
Here’s a lick you can play over the turnaround of a song. I’m essentially inserting a 1-6-2-5 progression, and using tritone substitutions on every chord except the 1. You can hear my band intuitively follow me on these changes, but it sounds even more out when they don’t, and raises your chances of getting fired.
Some ideas on the first 8 of Polkadots and Moonbeams
Someone messaged me asking if I could play the theme from Sure, why not!
