Happy Juneteenth!!!

Fun fact.
About Juneteenth

That history is so powerful, especially when you think about the sheer weight of that delay—those 250,000 people were legally freed by the Emancipation Proclamation two and a half years earlier, but the news was kept from them until Major General Gordon Granger and those Union troops arrived in Galveston to enforce it.
The name "Juneteenth" itself carries so much resilience, moving from a local celebration by newly freed Texans to a widely recognized symbol of freedom and a federal holiday.

Fun fact did you know? Memphis TN Gay pride celebration dates back to 1970 when the Miss Memphis Review, organized by Bill Kendall, served as the city first public celebration.

Today is Pansexual & Panromantic Awareness and Visibility Day - a moment to honor the beauty, truth, and expansiveness of attraction beyond gender.

It's a wonderful reminder that love and attraction are as vast and diverse as humanity itself.

To anyone celebrating, discovering themselves, or learning how to be a better ally today: You are seen, you are valid, and your space in this world is permanent.

Attention Illinois residents.

The Senate Executive Committee has scheduled HB 5095 for a committee hearing this week. Can you please submit a witness slip in support of HB 5095? The deadline is 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6.

HB 5095 will ensure that the Illinois Secretary of State’s current self-attestation process for gender marker corrections on driver's license is established in state law. The bill also ensures that a person's gender designation form is kept confidential, protected like medical statements and only released by court order. The legislation is timely and necessary, given the increased attacks on the transgender community and the targeting of state IDs we’ve seen in other states. HB 5095 is an initiative of Equality Illinois, Legal Council for Health Justice, and the Transformative Justice Law Project of Illinois.
