Cotton candy sunset courtesy of the midwest. Indiana is usually recognized for it's ties to basketball and Indy car racing, but with all the farmland around it sometimes shows off it's beautiful skies too

I decided to take a little summer evening hike after a long day at work. I drove out to one of my favorite state parks nearby and hit the boardwalk trail to relax and soak in the sounds of nature. Nearing the end of my walk I sat on one of the benches overlooking the marsh and was joined by this Great blue heron taking a break from hunting for dinner.

Now this is a pose I don't normally get from a Great Blue Heron lol

Normally I wouldn't get so excited posting a bird photo but this one has a very interesting unique story behind it 😊

I am a fairly new photographer. I started taking nature pics on my hikes to show my friends and found that I really love nature photography. As my love for outdoor photography grew, I discovered birding. Didn't think I would like taking pictures of birds very much but boy was I wrong lol! Full blown bird nerd here now and it seems to be getting worse lol.

Never in my life would I have thought that this picture was possible. This is a lifer for me definitely with a cool story. A friend alerted a nature group I belong to about a rare bird spotted in Indiana. After a few pics by him and confirmation from DNR it is official, there is a Brown B***y hanging out at a lake in Spring Mill State Park in southern Indiana. This is only the second time in history one has been spotted in Indiana. This juvenile, confirmed by DNR, is obviously here by mistake but actually thriving at the park right now. I live in northern IN but was not going to miss the opportunity photographing a carribbean bird in the midwest.

He put on quite the diving show when I was there and it definitely was a once in a lifetime experience seeing one here. I will be going back as long as he hangs around the park to get a million more pics 😉

It's about that time of year again! Spring has sprung and babies will be making their way into this world very soon. Found this tiny little nature preserve last summer and got to watch this beautiful Sandhill Crane and her juveniles spend a few weeks there growing and thriving
