Like a walk in the park.

Many of you know about Amy’s battle with Trigeminal Neuralgia; some of you also know about the relentless autoimmune condition she deals with. But for the last few months she has been fighting a new enemy, a fight that ended last week with her as the clear, undisputed winner—a fight against breast cancer.

It’s not fair that any woman has to deal with this grotesque disease, one whose physical, emotional and psychological impacts I never quite grasped until now. But for Amy to deal with this on top of everything else felt downright cruel. Yet she handled it like she’s handled every diagnosis and setback—with a giant middle finger and even bigger smile. What woman sits in bed smiling, thrilled to simply be eating a meal right after coming through a double mastectomy? Literally hours after her diagnosis, she said, “Well I guess we’re doing Laugh Your T**s Off!” I know there are a lot of really tough people out there, but there are levels to it, and this woman is in the top 1% of the top 1%. I am completely in awe of her—she is grace, she is strength, she is light. She is simply unbreakable.

We kept this one a little close to the vest, but to those we shared this with—THANK YOU for the calls, the texts, the encouraging words, the meals, the gift baskets, the flowers, the dog walks, the mastectomy essentials. It all meant more to us than you can imagine. With every gesture, Amy would say, “I don’t deserve all of this.” I respectfully disagree—I can’t think of anybody who deserves it more.

Finally, if you’ll indulge me. Ladies, please, please, PLEASE get your mammograms. Guys, get your PSA checked. Everybody, get your colonoscopies. So many of these cancers can be beaten with early detection. I know we’ve all heard this a billion times before, but there is zero understating this—a few hours of inconvenience can genuinely save your life.

Nothing sums up my time with Jarrett Payton more than this picture. Always looked forward to having JP on the show mornings after Bears games. Mainly because he did most of the work during these segments, but also because he did most of the work during these segments.

No person has ever gotten me to do anything remotely close to dancing on TV, but JP is like a happiness virus. He's basically happiness herpes. We always wanted to do more together but our schedules never aligned. Seems that's not the case anymore . . .

Wishing him all the best. We'll miss him around here, but family first. Always, always, always.

I know the biggest takeaway for a lot of you will be how fantastic my hair looks in this picture, but try to look past that and read the fine print.
