1. The 18th Annual is finally here! We’ll see you September 23rd–26th for 4 days of inspiring photography programming.
2. If Emmett Till Lived: Freedom on American Ground, opens at MoCP on 9/10, featuring a day of programming.
3. Photography Studies Club returns this month! Hosted by Kristie Kahns and kicking off at on 9/17, this monthly gathering is free and open to all! (RSVP required; link in bio)
4. The Art Institute of Chicago is hosting a Conversation in conjunction with their current exhibition Lee Miller—Fearless on 9/24 from 6–7 PM
5. Submissions to Field Notes from the Middle, our inaugural juried exhibition of photography about the Midwest, are due September 30th.

Currently on view at : Light Slip: Archive, Abstraction, and Phenomena, a two-person exhibition by Sonja Thomsen and Aaron R. Turner.

The works on view explore the boundaries of the photographic image, sculpture, space, geometric abstraction, and history. Thomsen and Turner have been in conversation as artists since 2020, and Light Slip is where that exchange becomes a collaborative exhibition.

📣 CALL FOR ENTRY: Field Notes from the Middle, juried by Nathaniel M. Stein, Curator of Photography at the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Filter Photo invites photographers and lens-based artists making work about the Midwest to submit to Field Notes from the Middle, an inaugural juried exhibition. Five artists will be selected to each exhibit 5–7 works from a single body of work.

Each exhibiting artist will be eligible for the 2026 Filter Photo Museum Purchase Award ($2,000), with the selected work acquired by the Cincinnati Art Museum for its permanent collection.

Photography, photographic materials & other lens-based work are all welcome. Open to artists working in: IL, IN, IA, KS, MI, MN, MO, NE, ND, OH, SD & WI.

It’s been a busy week at installing our next exhibition, “Light Slip: Archive, Abstraction, and Phenomena” by Sonja Thomsen and Aaron R. Turner.

The works on view explore the boundaries of the photographic image, sculpture, space, geometric abstraction, and history.

The exhibition officially opens tomorrow & we’ll be celebrating with the artists with a gallery reception during the on Friday, September 25th from 5–8 PM. Save the date!
