A moody, elegant w**e cellar moment.

Our basement w**e cellar isn’t your typical cellar. We designed it to be more like another room in the house, with glass, walnut, steel, polished concrete, and travertine.

Matt put it best “This isn’t a space I just run down to grab a bottle, the cellar has become the place where we listen to music, entertain friends, and lose track of time.”

Round two for new Apothecary Lounge project. For the design story, see our previous post. Photographer:Anthony Soluri

Apothecary Lounge is now open in Wrigleyville. We renovated an existing restaurant into a cocktail lounge, using historical pharmacy and apothecary imagery to inform the design. The concept grew from our client’s background as a pharmacist and craft cocktail enthusiast.

The renovation revealed original Chicago Common brick inside and beneath the exterior faux-stone facade. We removed the stone, cleaned up the brick, and installed a new storefront with folding windows that open the lounge to the street.

Inside, Venetian plaster, steel, and botanical wallpaper carry the apothecary references throughout. The plaster at the back bar takes its shape from the bottles it holds, and a custom leather banquette creates a more relaxed place to sit and gather. Near the entrance, we designed a Still Room, an elegant space with velvety textures, for chilling and taking in the street scene. Bio link for project details.

We’re renovating this 80s-era Lakeview townhome through a series of architectural interventions. A linear fireplace replaces an oversized masonry mass; the kitchen is reconfigured with updated appliances, integrated cabinetry, and a more informal breakfast bar; custom millwork creates continuity throughout; and the primary suite is reworked with a new en suite bath.

Along the west side of the study, a catwalk turns overlooked volume into a library path, connecting books, storage, and the spaces between.

Demo day in Bucktown. We’re on site as construction begins on this 3-unit brick building renovation. As architect and general contractor, we’re starting below grade, breaking up the basement slab and excavating to gain additional height. Sound off unless you’re in the mood for jackhammer audio.

Construction starts this week in Bucktown. As architect and general contractor on this project, we’re renovating a 3-unit brick building. Working within the existing structure to maintain density while introducing more light, air, and access to outdoor space.

The scope includes interior and exterior improvements to the 2-story + loft + basement building, with new roof decks: one at the rear and another created through a partial roof removal on the east elevation. Projects like this are about preserving our existing housing stock without resorting to teardowns and maintaining the neighborhood’s character.
