LIHEAP applications are opening soon. Beginning October 1, eligible families can apply by visiting the DCEO website or their local agency.
Eligible applicants include adults 60 and older, individuals with a disability, families with children five years old or younger, and households that are disconnected from their utilities, have a disconnection notice or have less than 25% in their propane tank. Applications for all other eligible households will open on November 1.

Behind on heating, electric, or water? Don’t wait until disconnection — funds are available NOW.
ATTENTION COOK COUNTY FAMILIES!
The Home Energy Assistance Program year is open October 1, 2026 through August 13, 2027 (or until funds run out).
Who gets priority starting Oct 1st:
• Seniors 60+
• Persons with a disability
• Families with children 5 and under
• Households disconnected or in danger of disconnection
All Cook County households can apply starting November 1, 2026 — including furnace repair/replacement through May 28, 2027.
What to bring:
• 30-day income for everyone in household (paystubs, SSA/SSI/VA/DHS letters, etc)
• Most recent heat, electric, and/or water bills
• Social Security Numbers or ITIN for all household members
• Current lease if utilities are included in rent
