Living with Darier disease can take an emotional toll that isn’t always visible.

The pain, unpredictability, flare-ups, stigma, and isolation can sometimes feel like too much. And for some people in the Darier community, that emotional weight can include thoughts of su***de.

If you’ve ever felt this way, please know: you are not alone, and there is no shame in asking for help. 🤍

You don’t have to find the perfect words. Start with someone you trust and simply say, “I’m not okay right now. I need help.”

If you’re in the U.S. and experiencing suicidal thoughts or a mental health crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7. If you’re in immediate danger, call 911 or go to your nearest emergency department.
Your diagnosis does not define your worth.

You matter. Your story matters. And you deserve support.

Save this post for yourself or share it with someone in the Darier community who may need the reminder today.

🔬 New Darier’s Disease Research Featured by Northwestern! 🧬

We’re excited to see Robert M. Harmon, PhD, our own Bob the Scientist, featured in a new Northwestern Medicine article highlighting groundbreaking research into Darier’s Disease.

The study explores how oxidative stress may be a key driver of Darier’s Disease flare-ups, helping explain why triggers like heat, sunlight, and psychological stress can cause symptoms to worsen.

Researchers found that Darier’s disease cells are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress and have difficulty replenishing glutathione, an important antioxidant that helps protect cells. When these defenses are overwhelmed, the cell-to-cell connections that keep skin strong can break down.

Even more exciting, the research found that antioxidant treatments helped protect patient-derived cells in the lab, opening the door to further research into potential treatment approaches.

We are incredibly proud of Bob and the entire research team for continuing to uncover the “why” behind Darier’s Disease and working toward better treatments for our community.

An evening that reminded us why sharing our stories matters.

We were so grateful to attend SKINRARE: In This Skin Together, an incredibly empowering gathering that brought together people living with rare and chronic skin conditions, advocates, creators, dermatology professionals, and skincare leaders.

What inspired us most was hearing each keynote speaker and panelist openly share what they’ve overcome. Their willingness to be vulnerable, tell their stories, and use their experiences to connect with and empower others was truly powerful.

We left feeling inspired to continue sharing our story, our struggles, and our wins because there is strength in being vulnerable, and there is power in knowing you are not alone.

Our biggest takeaway? We should all be proud of the skin we’re in. Every story, every scar, every challenge, and every journey deserves to be seen and heard. Thank you, SKINRARE, for creating a space where people could come together, feel understood, and celebrate the skin they’re in.

We’re leaving inspired, empowered, and even more committed to making sure the Darier’s community has a voice.
