We are honored to share that our Executive Director, Denise Zaccardi, received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 31st Annual Community Media Awards.
One of the most distinguished honors from , this recognition is reserved for only a select few across their 35 years of championing community journalism in Chicago.
We could not be more proud of Denise and everything she has built here at CTVN.
In honor of Hard Cover's 40th anniversary, this week's Hard Cover rewind is revisiting some of the defining projects from the 70s and 80s ✨
In 1998, three CTVN students— Jairus Davis, Terrence Murphy, and Christien Starks— got the chance of a lifetime when they sat down to interview Civil Rights icon Rosa Parks at her Chicago book signing.
The interview was brief, only two questions, but the film they produced from it went on to win first place in the documentary category at the “Do It Your...Self” National Inner City Youth Video and Film Festival in Cambridge, Massachusetts where the students were flown out to accept the honor in person.
Rosa Parks left them with words that still resonate: "Believe in yourself that you should be free and you will be." Nearly 30 years later, this film remains one of the most prized pieces in our archive.
