Another year, another record-breaking win for XL Fest. This year's edition ran August 20–23 in Chicago, with programming at the Obama Presidential Center marking the festival's biggest footprint yet. What started as a small neighborhood showcase back in 2017 has transformed into one of the country's premier celebrations of BIPOC film, TV, and immersive media pulling in nearly 4,000 attendees this year alone, up from just a few hundred in its earliest days. Filmmakers, brands, investors, and creative entrepreneurs packed four days of panels, screenings, networking, and deal-making, all built around the belief that storytelling deserves room to grow without asking permission.

Nearly a week after catastrophic storms with winds up to 99 mph tore through Northwest Indiana, Gary residents continue to bear the brunt of the damage the hardest-hit city in the region.
