TableTapas Games

So after the kickstarter ended we decided to include a stretch goal we had for ourselves, hiring an amazing writer to develop some fun lore for each of the corporations and they turned out amazing! We are now in mass production and the games will be arriving much sooner than originally planned!

Last few weeks have been slow in terms of game nights with birthdays - but managed to sneak in some Root and Brass Lancashire recently and had a great time!

After this play I confirmed that I prefer Lancashire over Birmingham - so might tighter and oddly more streamlined IMO.

Mexica and Crits & Tricks (designed by the amazing ) last night. Had a great time with both. Mexica has been on my to-play list for years and it did not disappoint. Great spatial considerations, high interaction and lots of tempo considerations.

Crits & Tricks blends two things I love D&D (with theme and dice set) and trick taking. This one was felt more chaotic at first than it appeared. There’s some cool levers in here to pull yourself up. It did ultimately feel a little less like trick taking in the traditional sense, as it was difficult to grab the lead and do what you wanted. That ends up creating interesting decision points - but I can see some pure trick taking fans bounce off of it.

I’m looking forward to my next play of both of these games!

Dominion is such a classic deck builder. Many games have replicated the mechanism, but it continues to set the bar high! It’s not hugely interactive, but at 2p it takes on a race feeling as you try to work out your engine faster than your competitor. It’s fast and easy to table. Reminded and I how much we enjoy this game on weeknights after the kids go to bed!

Princes of Florence, Bohnanza and Bridges of Shangri-la hit the table last night. All 3 certified classics in my book. I will play these games anytime they are suggested. Bridges continues to shine as I get more plays. It’s another one in the vein of opaque decision space that narrows as the game progresses. Really enjoy exploring these games that have so much depth and nuance to them.

Blood on the Clocktower with my gaming group is always a great time! Evil 😈 managed to sneak out the win with just too much suspicion between the drunk (chef) and virgin. We also managed to sneak in some Mahjong and Medina! What have you been playing lately?!

What an absolutely wonderful weekend filled with amazing people and lots of fun gaming. We had a little house con where friends old and new gathered to play some games and we had an absolutely amazing time. Highlights were playing Twilight Imperium, so much Medina and getting to deepen friendships with a lot of wonderful people I interact with online.

The best thing about board games is the people! I meet more and more amazing people I am excited to call friends every con I go to!

Getting ready for a gaming cabin weekend! Have missed game nights for a bit - going to be amazing to see friends and dive into some games.
