Last weekend, ABOC bowling enthusiasts came together to participate in one of the Bank’s favorite CRA events, DuPage Pads 24th Annual Rock and Bowl fundraising event to end homelessness. Kimberly Kam (CRA Officer and Senior Vice President, Sales Director, Union and Commercial Services) said, “This was ABOC’s 4th year participating in the DuPagePads Rock & Bowl fundraising event, with two returning teams: The Pin Reapers and The Deposit Strikers. Last week, members of ABOC’s Corporate Trust team attended Women in Public Finance’s 30th Annual National Conference, held at the Sheraton Grand Chicago Riverwalk Hotel. Original founders, current members, and attendees came together to celebrate and focus on the conference theme of “future.” The event was a great success, bringing together women professionals in public finance from across the country to connect, collaborate, and share their expertise in the field of public finance. Corporate Trust team members Patricia Trlak, Cathey Walls, Donna Howard, and Stacy Coleman were proud to be a part of the momentous event!

ABOC strives to create value for real estate investors and small businesses alike by going above and beyond. Recently, Razny Jewelers needed a lender who could meet the requirement of a quick close. ABOC was able to quickly learn their business and understand their goals, and was able to get it done. Happy 19th work anniversary to Mary Murray! Mary brings a wealth of knowledge and extensive union background to the Bank, and brightens her coworkers’ days with her sense of humor. When asked about her time at ABOC, Mary shared her favorite part of the job. “My favorite part of the job is adapting to change. In the Institutional Retirement Services industry, we operate under several legal authoritative agencies who have rules and regulations which continue to change, so we need to be flexible to meet these challenges. Another aspect of our business is the retirees – we hear from them sharing their side of a story about the Union they retired with. Many share personal stories and just want to talk and you know your day got better as well as theirs just by listening to them for a few minutes.”

Mary also shared what helps to keep her motivated and passionate about work. “Retirement is personal. We all look forward to that day so being part of that is meaningful.” A company value that resonates with Mary is Customer Focus. She said, “My focus is always on the customer, how they operate, how they need us, how we can make their lives better, how we can complement what they do, and have a joint partnership with them.”

Mary starts every day with a Diet Coke and wisdom for her team, including “You spend most of your lives working, so when your day is done make time for you. I have two wonderful daughters and two equally wonderful sons, all of whom are married and have blessed me with many blessings (grandkids) who I spoil endlessly.”

ABOC remembers and honors the heroic efforts of 1st responders 25 years ago on 9/11/2001. Our hearts are with the victims and their families and the many who are still affected by the horrific tragedy. The Bank is grateful for firefighters, police officers, paramedics, EMTs, and all who put their lives on the line to protect our nation and communities. Thank you to our 1st responder clients, and all who serve.

Last week, ABOC team members enjoyed attending Chicago Federation of Labor’s Labor Day Luncheon and Labor Day Parade. The events were held to support CFL’s advocacy efforts on behalf of working people throughout Chicago and Cook County. The Bank stands with our Union friends to promote social, economic, and racial justice for all. Kimberly Kam (Senior Vice President, Sales Director, Union and Commercial Services) said, “It was a lively event this year, we were energized by labor union leaders Bob Reiter (CFL President), Don Villar (CFL Secretary-Treasurer) Karen Kent (UNITE HERE Local 1 President), and fellow attendees. We stand in solidarity with our labor union leaders, and we celebrate what we’ve accomplished together.” Trina Franklin (Vice President, Union and Commercial Services Manager ) added, “Though the parade was held to honor workers in organized labor, a special focus was placed on Edward (Eddie) Sadlowski, an activist who fought injustice in the United Steelworkers of America and became the youngest president ever of his local union at the age of 25. It was inspiring to see the people of the 10th Ward turn out in droves to watch the parade and celebrate organized labor.”

ABOC is excited to share the official announcement of the Bank’s relocation to 101 N. Wacker Drive in Chicago’s Loop!

The new headquarters and full-service branch were designed to create a modern, collaborative environment for employees while providing customers with a convenient downtown destination for both commercial and personal banking needs. ABOC is grateful to the partners who helped make the new space possible, including GARNETT Architects, Executive Construction Inc. (ECI) and Cushman & Wakefield, as well as the many subcontractors and union tradespeople whose expertise and craftsmanship were essential throughout the project.
