As we continue our Gala! JUBALEE highlights, we’re honored to recognize Samir Mayekar (Polsky Center) , Bruce Bradley (Tapology) , and Buster Cooper. This year, we also celebrated Buster Cooper in memory, with a heartfelt tribute delivered by his granddaughter, Keira Anne Leverton (Choreo Records/The Drawbacks Youth Tap Ensemble Alumni/Historical Page). Their dedication and impact embody the spirit of the JUBA! Awards.

We’re deeply grateful to our honorees, sponsors, board members, artists, and every guest who shared this meaningful evening with us. Your support makes this work possible.

Building on last year’s sold-out engagement, Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project (CBDLP) returns to the Harris Theater, transforming the stage into a living archive — where dance doesn’t simply tell history; it becomes history in motion.

Performed by ten of Chicago’s most exciting companies, this electrifying evening honor’s the city’s Black cultural, social, political, and artistic architects through movement, imagination, and lineage rather than literal representation.
