Applications are open for our upcoming workshop, Image-Based Scientific Machine Learning for Theories of Biological Dynamics Across Scales – Learning Multivariate Spatio‑Temporal Dynamical Models!

The workshop will be designed for interactive, hands-on sessions, including test cases and research problems with shared datasets for on-site analysis, training, and modeling. We highly encourage PhD students and postdocs to apply

🔬 Exploring the Ozbudak and Snead Labs

Members of the broader NITMB community got together to talk about their work and possible ways mathematical and biological/theoretical and experimental researchers can collaborate in the future at the first NITMB Lab Day!

Experimentalists at Northwestern Medical Campus hosted mathematicians, physicists, and theorists in their labs to show them their research on condensates and mechanisms in cancer and embryonic cells. Through their demonstrations, theorists could better understand the goals and challenges of experimentation and how they might develop models for data analysis

Are you an early-career researcher looking to develop mathematical, theoretical, and computational approaches to study any area of biology?

We’re looking for researchers ready to transform biological research and inspire new mathematical discoveries to join the NITMB Fellows program!

NITMB Fellows conduct independent research programs, in collaboration with NITMB faculty members or others outside the Institute, focused on developing new mathematics and statistics relevant to challenges in biology

For full consideration, applications must be submitted by November 15, 2026 https://www.nitmb.org/nitmb-fellows-program/

Modern imaging now allows us to observe living systems with unprecedented precision, yet our ability to extract mechanistic understanding from these data remains limited

We’re bringing together mathematicians, computer scientists, physicists, and biologists to address this challenge by accelerating the development of image-based scientific machine learning (ML) for biological dynamics

Join us for the Image-Based Scientific Machine Learning for Theories of Biological Dynamics Across Scales – Image-Based Scientific Machine Learning for Advancing Theory in Biology workshop!

Morphogenetic Robustness from Mechanochemical Interactions

A huge thank you to Edouard Hannezo, Professor of Theoretical Biophysics at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria, for presenting at this week's entry in the NITMB Seminar Series!

Developing tissues are inherently noisy: forces and biochemical signals vary in space and time, and neighbouring cells or structures display substantial heterogeneity. Yet morphogenesis is reproducible. At today's seminar, Hannezo explored how mechanochemical feedbacks can buffer this variability, and under which conditions they instead amplify it

This seminar was also the concluding talk of the Biological Function in Space and Time: From Forces and Cues to Emerging Decision-making in Fates, States, and Shapes workshop. Throughout this week, participants gathered at NITMB to identify current challenges, establish collaborations, and discuss strategies to advance our understanding of how biological systems maintain and organize function across space and time

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the seminar and/or workshop! We look forward to seeing you at NITMB again soon. Check out https://www.nitmb.org/events/ for upcoming workshops, seminars, and other events at NITMB
