Cairo, Illinois was once a bustling town at the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers, but today it’s a ghost town… 🏚️

Founded in the early 1800s, Cairo grew into an important river port and played a role in the Civil War and the development of the region. But over the decades, the river traffic declined, railroads and highways changed the way people traveled, industries disappeared.

Today, much of Cairo stands as a haunting reminder of what happens when a town’s lifeblood slowly disappears. Have you ever been to Cairo Illinois 🤔

I’ll look inside Jackson Mississippi’s largest abandoned mall, called Metrocenter mall. It has sat for years and until a plan is created to redevelop it, it remains frozen in time. 🏚️💔
