Happy Long Weekend! We hope some leisure time with friends and family are in store for you. Maybe a nap too! Our clients knew they wanted an oversized bench (bed) swing. It was their vision we just helped them make it look pretty.

There’s something about summer that gives me permission to step away from routine, take late afternoons off from responsibilities, and simply soak in the long days with spontaneous friend meetups and dinners out with Rich. We’ve been practicing what it’s like to be empty nesters as the kids were super independent living their best in the city they love. Rich and I are going to crush that next phase of our lives, but I’m in no rush.

For now, this summer our home was filled with a flurry of in/out of activity while Devan and Siona were around. Our front door felt like a revolving door of teenagers in all the best ways (most of the time : )).

Our annual 4th of July family time in Charlevoix, Michigan is always a highlight and remains the best vacation of the year, every year. It was great to celebrate a retirement and milestone birthday too!

Hundreds of hours were spent at the softball field. Siona and her team have officially aged out of Welles Park softball and the Warriors. It’s surreal that this chapter of our lives has come to an end.

And, of course, nothing beats the sights and sounds of Wrigley Field, along with the hope that every win earned in regular season will lead us to a postseason in the fall.

I continue to soak in the late summer blooms and lush greenery that are at their peak in the Midwest right now. I appreciate it even more because I know the season will change soon. I will welcome the transition to a beautiful autumn, but for now, ah summer!...”love you always forever.”

Grateful for the big, but mostly grateful for all the small fabulous moments of summer…..of life.

I’m often asked what my favorite room is to work on. It’s like being asked who my favorite child is. It changes depending on the day. 😉But if I had to have an answer, I would say it’s the bathroom. I think it’s because it’s nearly complete when the install is completed. Sure my clients add their own touches as in any room as they should but if done correctly the foundational pieces such as tile, plumbing, lighting, sometimes wallpaper, and the vanity are complete and working together are the stars of a space. Our Michigan Lakehouse Project clients specifically wanted each space to feel like it’s been there for years, warm and welcoming. This primary second floor bathroom vanity to me is timeless and does just this.

Siona is a freshman in high school. Knock ‘em dead, S!

We wanted this primary bathroom to feel classic with a casual vintage elegance. A space that didn’t feel brand new but rather evolved that will stand the test of time. We did this by creating layers on the walls, texture with the tile all with same serene palette and a few of subtle moments of contrast with the vanity and lights.

It’s Friday and golden hour at the Lake Michigan project. The sun reflecting off the handmade organic tiles at the family room bar backsplash couldn’t be more intriguing and inviting. Simplicity at its finest. Cheers! Happy Weekend.

Over a year in the making our Lake Michigan project is a home. Our clients moved into their dream lake home a couple of weeks ago and shared this photo with us this morning. This cozy room off the kitchen has quickly become the family’s favorite and we can see why. We have so much more to share about this project, but for today we are filled with gratitude to have been a small part of it. Stay tune.
