One concert performance is worth ten lessons, the saying goes, and so, looking back at our second summer concert, the members of the Chicago Recorder Society, associates from West Suburban Early Music Society and other good friends who played together on Sunday can reflect on all we learned as we grew into a tighter ensemble, savoring the pleasure of blending our sounds in the ideal acoustics of the Block House gallery. A big thanks to the PullmanArts Board for co-sponsoring the event, especially Soren Spicknall and Megan Krout.
Despite the air quality alert -- which may have affected our audience size by discouraging sensible parents from letting their children leave home -- 21 intrepid ambassadors of music and our director, Lisette Kielson, braved the orange alert and traveled south to 111th Street to perform to a dozen or so curious souls, five of whom later accepted gifted recorders for the play-along session. Seven Dinda, our featured soloist, wowed us with "Le Rossignol en-amour (the Nightingale in Love),” by François Couperin.
Our final summer concert will be held on August 16, at 12:15 pm (not 3), at Old St Mary’s Catholic Church.

On Sunday, we had a wonderful, well attended Make Music Chicago event, at the Bessie Coleman Library. The Library staff went out of their way to make it a success.
After our performance, the audience was invited to participate in the play-along and experience playing recorder themselves. Quite a few people did, and it was a lot of fun.
