Stop suing Black-owned beauty brands when the real problem is bigger than the brand owner.

Too many beauty entrepreneurs are building businesses while trying to navigate counterfeit products, unauthorized sellers, copied packaging, questionable suppliers, formula changes, and a supply chain they may not fully control.

When something goes wrong, everybody immediately says, “Sue the brand.”

But we need to start asking harder questions:

Who manufactured it?
Was the formula altered?
Were the raw materials tested?
Was the product purchased from an authorized seller?
Was it counterfeit or a dupe?
Does the brand have batch records and testing documentation?
Where did the product actually enter the supply chain?

Accountability matters. Consumer safety matters. But so does understanding how the beauty supply chain actually works.

This is exactly why Black beauty brands need stronger access to manufacturing, formulation, testing, packaging, intellectual property protection, logistics, and distribution.

We cannot keep telling people to “own the brand” without teaching them how to protect the brand.

That is one of the conversations we’re bringing directly to China.
