Bullying can stick with kids and teens long after the moment has passed. It can affect how they feel about themselves, their relationships and even how comfortable they feel at school or online.

This National Bullying Prevention Month, let’s remind young people that kindness, acceptance and inclusion matter. And if bullying is taking a toll on their mental health, they don’t have to work through those feelings alone.

Kids who have been bullied should know it's OK to talk about it. Start the conversation. We're here to help. 💙

On National Law Enforcement Su***de Awareness Day, we recognize all those who are struggling, and we remember those behind the badge who have fallen to su***de.

Mental health challenges affect too many law enforcement workers that are trying serve, help and strengthen their communities. Here at Hartgrove Behavioral Health System, we're very proud to partner with several police departments and other law enforcement agencies throughout the state, and we want everyone who serves to know that we care.

We know and understand the difficult tasks officers face every single day. Those who protect us need to be protected, too. If you know someone who works in law enforcement, check in on them, and then let them know they're doing a good job and you appreciate them. 💙

Giving a big shout-out to our September employee of the month, maintenance worker Steven Smiley! 👏🏆

Keith Henderson, MA, SPHR, group director of human resources (pictured left) and Artur Kulach, director of plant operations (pictured right), presented him with this well-deserved recognition.

Steven keeps a flawless attendance record and consistently steps up to help out his team. He's exactly the type of person we want representing our hospital.

A few words from his supervisor, Artur: 💬 "Beyond keeping our facility running smoothly and being a well-liked, uplifting presence to everyone in the building, your passion for service extends outside our doors through your meaningful work in the community. Thank you for your tireless work ethic, your dependable nature and everything you do to make our facility a better and well-kept place!"

James Peek, CADC, is a substance abuse counselor that has been working at Hartgrove Behavioral Health System for 6 years. We're featuring him and his work for Recovery Month because after being clean and sober 31 years himself, he's lived the journey.

Whether it's through volunteering, ministry or community advocacy, James is always trying to give back: "One of my slogans is: I live to make a difference, I try to help people."

Working in a hospital setting like ours keeps James close to his recovery and gives him a mindset to understand that he's been blessed. He enjoys teaching patients the coping skills they need to deal with their challenges in a positive way, and he wants more people to know that it's OK to change and it's OK to ask for help. 💙

Our expressive therapy team recently held a Luau Day for patients, which is always a fun and popular event!

That's our own Maizie Bassham, MT-BC, doing the pineapple balance relay course on the left. And that's our recreational therapist, Brianna Vance showing off her hula hoop skills.

Patients always get a special treat and compete for prizes, and it's a great way for them to build community with one another and maintain a therapeutic rapport with our team as they grow their confidence.
