Citizens Utility Board
See what great services we offer Land of Lincoln consumers!
Since its inception in 1984, the Citizens Utility Board has been blocking rate hikes and fighting for consumer protections and better service from the state’s investor-owned electric, gas and telephone companies. Since 1984, CUB has helped save Illinois consumers more than $10 billion by blocking rate hikes, winning refunds, cutting phone bills, and fighting for consumer protections in Springfield.

CUB and other consumer advocates stood with Alderwoman Maria Hadden and State Senator Graciela Guzman to announce that 38 elected leaders in Chicago sent a letter to state regulators opposing the Peoples Gas rate hike. We are grateful to those leaders for speaking up!
Jim at CUB spoke at the news conference: “It is a hardship to be a Peoples Gas customer, thanks to years of outrageous utility spending, serial rate hikes and escalating bills. And while Chicagoans suffer under a mountain of debt, Peoples Gas has laughed all the way to the bank, raking in record profits. We join elected officials in calling on state regulators to once again rein in this company and slash its unjust and unreasonable rate hike.”

Watch live as state and local elected officials release a letter calling on the Illinois Commerce Commission to oppose the $144 million rate hike pushed by Peoples Gas, reject its request for an excessive 10.1% profit rate, and continue to pursue reforms to its Pipe Retirement Program.

ComEd and Ameren have confirmed their new power prices as of Oct. 1. A major reason Illinois power prices are high is soaring demand from new and proposed data centers. This is why we’re working to pass the POWER Act–to make Big Tech pay its fair share: https://buff.ly/MIvQBBA
