🏈🐻FOOTBALL SEASON IS HERE, BEARS FANS!🐻🏈
Cheer for your favorite team and sneak in some tummy time, stretching, and moving practice all season long. These four game day activities can help encourage neck strength, symmetry, mobility, and whole body movements for little ones with torticollis.

🏈1. PREGAME FOOTBALL HOLD
Before kickoff, try a gently football hold stretch. Position baby lying on their side along your arm, supporting their head and body while allowing their neck to stretch. Use their favorite toys to encourage baby to look in desired direction.

Think of this as a pregame warm-up for those little neck muscles. Keep the stretch gentle and comfortable!

🧡 2. SIDELYING PLAY
Set baby up on their side with toys at eye level. Alternate side and encourage reaching, looking, and bringing hands together. Sidelying is a great way to work on trunk and neck control while keeping play fun!

And when the Bears get the ball…this is the perfect positioning to watch D’Andre Swift or Kyle Monangai break free and run down the SIDEline! Encourage baby to follow the action! 🏃‍♂️

🐻 3. ROLL FOR THE TURNOVER — DEFENSE!
When the Bears defense is looking to force a turnover, it is time to practice their roll! Encourage baby to turn their head, shift their weight, and work toward rolling. Give plenty of time to initiate the movement and let them make the play! 🐻 🔃

🏈 4. PRONE PLAY = TOUCHDOWN!
Tummy time is the perfect position to cheer on a big passing play! Place baby in supervised prone position while they watch our QB look downfield for a touchdown pass to Rome, Cole, Luther, Colston, and more! 🎯

Encourage baby to look both directions and reach for toys while workiing on head, neck, shoulder, and trunk strength.

🎉 GAME DAY BONUS:
🏆 When the Bears SCORE ➡️ celebrate with a few fun reaches in tummy time 🙌
🔄 TURNOVER ➡️ time to practice rolling
⏰ TIMEOUT ➡️ take a movement break, reposition, and reset.
🏈HALFTIME ➡️ change positions and try a new play setup.

The goal isn’t perfection—it’s short, frequent, playful opportunities to work! 💪🏼

🌟 5 signs of torticollis parents can look for! 🌟

Torticollis is when a baby has a preference for turning or tilting their head to one side. It can sometimes be subtle, so here are a few signs parents and caregivers can watch for:

1️⃣ Head tilt to one side
2️⃣ Baby consistently looks or turns their head to the same side to look at toys, faces, or sounds
3️⃣ Difficulty turning their head equally in both directions
4️⃣ Trouble with tummy time or becoming frustrated in certain positions
5️⃣ Flat spot developing on the back of their head

Remember: Babies naturally have preferences, but a consistent head position or limited neck movement may be worth discussing with a pediatric physical therapist.

Early recognition and treatment can help support comfortable movement and healthy development. ❤️

✨4 PT-Inspired Activities to Try at Home! ✨
Here are four fun, home-based activities that kids love—and that can help support strength, balance, coordination, motor planning, and body awareness:

🐻 Animal walks — work on strength, balance, coordination, and body awareness! Frog jumps challenge leg strength and power, penguin walks work on balance and ankle stability, while crab walks strengthen the core, shoulders, and hips.

🧺 Sled push & pull — great for building full-body strength and endurance while challenging the legs, core, and upper body. They also help develop power, stability, coordination, and functional movement.

🚦 Red Light, Green Light —to work on reaction time, balance, coordination, body control, and quick changes in movement. It also encourages kids to listen, follow directions, and stay engaged while moving!

⭕ Hula hooping — to work on core strength, balance, coordination, motor planning, and body awareness! It also challenges rhythm and timing while keeping movement fun and engaging.

The best part? You can turn everyday play into opportunities for movement and development! 💛

Save this Reel for your next play session and try these activities at home!

Why Crawling is so important! 💙
This important milestone helps babies build the foundation for future movement, learning, and independence.
As babies crawl, they are developing:
✨ Strength in their core, shoulders, arms, and hips
✨ Coordination by learning to use both sides of their body together
✨ Sensory skills like body awareness, spatial awareness, and balance
✨ Hand and wrist strength to support future fine motor skills
✨ Visual skills including tracking, depth perception, and eye-hand coordination
✨ Motor planning skills to explore and problem-solve through movement
Crawling gives babies the opportunity to explore their environment, build confidence, and learn how their bodies move through the world. 🌎
Every baby develops at their own pace, and some babies may choose different ways to move. However, if your little one is struggling to get on hands and knees, avoiding tummy time, showing a preference for one side, or not progressing with movement, a pediatric physical therapist can help support their development.

How much tummy time does my baby really need?

One of the most common questions we hear from new parents is, “How much tummy time should my baby be doing?” The answer changes as your little one grows!

Tummy time helps build the strength needed for rolling, sitting, crawling, and eventually walking. It also promotes healthy head shape, core strength, shoulder stability, and motor development.

Remember—every minute counts! You don’t have to do it all at once. Short, frequent sessions throughout the day are often more enjoyable (and realistic!) for babies and parents.

Save this post to use as a quick reference as your baby grows, and share it with a new parent who might find it helpful!

🌟 Building confidence before those first independent steps! 🌟

Standing is a major milestone that helps babies develop the strength, balance, and confidence they need before walking. If your little one is pulling to stand and starting to let go, try these fun activities to encourage independent standing:

✨ 1. Stand with back support
Place your baby with their back against a couch, wall, or sturdy surface to help them practice standing without relying on holding on with their hands.
✨2. Play with dynamic toys while standing
Use toys that light up, spin, pop, or make sounds to keep your baby engaged while encouraging them to remain standing for longer periods.
✨ 3. Standing balance with a toy in each hand
Offer a toy in each hand to encourage your baby to let go of external support and practice balancing independently.

Remember—every baby develops at their own pace! These activities should always be done with close supervision and only if your baby is already able to pull to stand safely.

This obstacle challenge is working on:
✨ Single leg balance while stepping over the stick
✨ Hand-eye coordination and motor planning while catching the bean bag
✨ Squat strength and stability to place each bean bag on the matching cone
✨ Core strength, body awareness, and postural control throughout the activity

Kids are having so much fun they don’t even realize how many important skills they’re building!

Every step, catch, and squat helps improve the foundation for running, jumping, navigating the playground, and participating confidently in everyday activities.

“They’re just clumsy...” 🤔

We hear this from parents all the time. While the occasional trip or fall is a normal part of childhood, frequent stumbling, difficulty keeping up with peers, or falling during everyday play may be a sign that your child could benefit from extra support.

Movement is a skill that develops over time. Some children simply need a little extra help building the strength, balance, coordination, and motor planning needed to move confidently.

Pediatric physical therapy can help your child:
✨ Improve balance and coordination
✨ Build core and leg strength
✨ Develop body awareness
✨ Master age-appropriate gross motor skills
✨ Improve motor planning
✨ Gain confidence during play and everyday activities

At Core Kids Pediatric Physical Therapy, our goal is to help children move safely, confidently, and independently through fun, play-based therapy that’s tailored to their individual needs.

Every child deserves to feel confident exploring their world.
