Welcome the new additions to our Fall 2026 staff! Meet Ricardo Renteria!

Hi, my name is Ricardo. I grew up in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, and moved to the United States in July 2021. I began college immediately after high school and am currently a rising junior at Chico State. I am also a member of Dr. Monica Soโ€™s undergraduate chemistry research group, and I plan to pursue a Ph.D. in chemistry after graduation.

At the SLC, I will be tutoring General Chemistry II, a challenging course that builds upon CHEM 111 and introduces many students to more advanced chemical concepts. I hope to help students strengthen their understanding and feel more confident in the course.

Outside of academics, I enjoy painting, playing osu!, and spending time with friends. I am also a sucker for anything philosophy and enjoy thoughtful discussions and debates.

The SLC has been a very positive resource throughout my time at Chico, and I am excited to contribute to that same environment, now as a tutor.

Welcome the new additions to our Fall 2026 staff! Meet Leslie Medina!

Hi! My name is Leslie, and I am an exercise physiology major and a third-year student at Chico State. I am from the East Bay Area and have lived there my entire life until coming to Chico. I hope to one day work as an occupational therapist! I enjoy spending time with my friends and cats, as well as listening to music and playing random games. I understand how some classes can seem more intimidating as a college student, and I want to make students feel more comfortable in a class. I really enjoy chemistry and want more people to enjoy the class as well!

Welcome the new additions to our Fall 2026 staff! Meet Unique Gonzalez!
"Hello, my name is Unique Gonzalez. I was born and raised in Sacramento, CA, only about an hour and a half away from Chico. I am currently a pre-nursing student applying to the nursing program very soon. I hope to obtain my BSN and work in the labor and delivery department or the NICU. I also work at the Wellcat Health Center here on campus, where I assist students, nurses, and other providers. When I am not at work, school, or studying, I enjoy the typical things. Such as hanging out with friends, watching action/thriller shows, and visiting my family back home. Other hobbies I have include playing soccer, cooking, and listening to music. Iโ€™m excited to be joining the team!"

Welcome the new additions to our Fall 2026 staff! Meet Ruby Kirkaldy! "Hi, my name is Ruby! I grew up in Los Angeles and came to Chico State for a fun change of environment! Iโ€™m currently a rising sophomore in pre-nursing, but am looking to change my degree to biological sciences. I have a massive passion for science, especially anatomy and physiology. Taking these classes is what changed my mind towards medicine! I truly love anatomy and found it to be a mix of fun with the right level of challenge. Teaching is another passion of mine, and Iโ€™m looking forward to helping people navigate anatomy. Outside of school, I really enjoy hiking, reading outside, listening to music, and cooking. Iโ€™m very excited to join the Chico State tutoring team and help my fellow students learn a love of anatomy!"

Welcome to the new addition to our Fall 2026 staff! Meet Julissa Oregel!
"Hi everyone! My name is Julissa, and I am a third-year, first-semester nursing student at Chico State. I grew up in Yuba City and was unfamiliar with Chico. When I moved here to go to school, I fell in love with the town and university! I took anatomy my first semester here, and it was a wake-up call to the struggles of comprehending how complex our bodies truly are. I learned a lot and can not wait to show others how to understand the way our bodies work in the amazing ways that they do. I strive to be a guide for other pre-nursing majors on how to navigate getting into Chicoโ€™s competitive program while enhancing their learning on the main foundation of healthcare, anatomy!"
