Our Assistant Director, Luis Moreno, recently visited Instructor Angela Casler's class at CSU Chico to talk about socioeconomic innovation in Far Northern California. His presentation was called "Building Stronger Communities: Understanding Local Economic Development." Thank you, Professor Casler, for inviting us!
So what is economic development? It's the work of helping a region do well: making sure local businesses can start, grow and stay here, and that the people who live here have good jobs and opportunity. At 3CORE, we do that through business financing, mentoring and partnerships across Butte, Glenn and Tehama counties.
Talking with students matters because they're the next business owners, employees and community leaders. When they understand how a local economy works, they're better prepared to help it grow.

Four weeks this spring, a booth downtown, and a first customer who wasn't a relative.
This year we teamed up with Downtown Chico to run the Young Entrepreneur Initiative. Students built a product, set a price, and then did the genuinely hard part — stood behind a table at Thursday Night Market and sold it to their own community. Henna and body art, handmade jewelry, crochet, tie-dye, a resale rack. For most of them, it was the first taste of running something of their own.
