The Southern California Basque Club is a nonprofit organization founded in 1946 by Basque settlers that moved to Southern California.
The Southern California Basque Club (SCBC) was founded in the spring of 1946 by Father Espelette, a Basque Benedictine priest from the Pyrenees Mountains of France and Spain. Each year the club hosts a picnic the first Sunday of July to celebrate the Basque traditions with food, dance, and song. The club gives the opportunity for many young Basques to learn and participate in a culture that was brought over from the old country of their parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. Many of the club members today are 3rd and 4th generation members. SCBC is a member of the North American Basque Organization otherwise known as NABO. NABO links all of the Basques clubs in the United States and Canada.
