MEMBER OF THE MONTH: DEB COWAN🌟

What started 26+ years ago with signing up her three kids for soccer turned into a lifelong commitment to the game and her community.

Today, Deb has spent 23 years on the Kings Soccer Board, nearly two decades supporting the referee program, and continues to serve as SAY North Vice President and organizer of the annual fall tournament.

Her favorite part of volunteering? Watching young referees grow in confidence, leadership and character—and seeing many return years later to give back themselves. ❤️

Deb’s advice to fellow soccer leaders: “Always keep the focus on the kids and invest in your volunteers.”

Thank you, Deb, for more than two decades of leadership, mentorship and dedication to youth soccer! 👏⚽

A little education and preparation goes a LONG way. ⚽️

Prepared coaches are more confident. They communicate better with families. They create safer environments. And they understand what’s appropriate for the age group they’re coaching.

Most importantly, prepared coaches are better equipped to create an environment where kids can learn, belong, build confidence, and have FUN.

That’s why we’ve put together the Fall 2026 SAY Soccer Coaching Toolkit — everything you need to feel prepared and confident heading into the season.

📚 Inside the Coaching Toolkit:
• 2026 SAY Soccer Coaching Manual
• Coaching resources
• SAY Soccer Playing Laws & Rulebook
• Yellow & Red Card guidance
• Direct & Indirect Free Kick information
• Additional educational resources & tools

Our 2026 SAY Soccer Coaching Manual was created specifically with recreational coaches in mind, featuring practical information, age-appropriate guidance, helpful links, partner resources, and tools you can actually use on the field.

Whether you’re a first-time coach or a seasoned veteran, a little preparation can make a BIG difference.

Celebrating our Member of the Month, David Reardon of San Francisco Youth Soccer! ⚽

David’s passion for the game is creating opportunities for young referees both on and off the field. As SFYS’s Senior Program Manager and a lifelong player and referee, David created Game Officials Football Club (GOFC), a first-of-its-kind team made entirely of licensed referees. GOFC helps young officials continue developing as players while gaining a deeper understanding of the game from all 11 positions.

David’s commitment to referee development also shines through the SFYS Youth Referee Camp, where 36 young referees receive 30 hours of training and hands-on experience in one week—helping them build confidence, leadership skills, camaraderie, and valuable life skills.

In 2026 alone, 20 GOFC seniors officiated an incredible 2,242 games. David’s work has also earned national recognition, with U.S. Soccer featuring GOFC and SFYS in its World Cup coverage. 🇺🇸⚽

SAY Soccer is proud to support David and SFYS in investing in the next generation of referees and strengthening the game at every level. 👏
