๐ Itโs time again for ! The ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ข๐จ๐ ๐จ๐ ๐ฌ๐ข๐ ๐ง๐ข๐๐ข๐๐๐ง๐๐ is the span of time during which a property gained its historical importance. This may include the year of construction and the height of its architectural style, or it may encompass a range of years that reflects when the buildingโs or districtโs significant historical events occurred. For the Frank Lloyd Wrightโdesigned Cedric G. Boulter and Patricia Neils House, the period of significance is 1950โ1974, representing the years during which the building was constructed and remodeled in keeping with the principles of the Modern Movement.

Our economic impact report, coming out October 23rd, says nearly 50% of Cincinnati's population growth occurred in neighborhoods with historic district designations. The study also shows this 5% of the city's land accounted for almost half of its population growth from 2020 to 2024.
โThereโs often this myth that historic preservation or historic districts prevent development and that it freezes things in time, and that you canโt do anything new. Thatโs 100% false. You canโt get another Over-the-Rhine anywhere else. You canโt get another East Walnut Hills anywhere else. You canโt get another Northside anywhere else,โ she says. โTheyโre so incredibly uniqueโฆ that people find which oneโs their personality and thatโs where they want to go.โ - Beth Johnson, Cincinnati Preservation Executive Director.
Cincinnati historic districts drive population growth, preservationists say A report from Cincinnati Preservation is meant to bolster support for saving buildings, rather than demolishing and building new.

โ๏ธ Now Listed in the National Register of Historic Places!
We are excited to celebrate the Cincinnati & Suburban Bell Telephone Company Norwood Exchange, officially listed in the National Register of Historic Places on September 14, 2026!
Located at Norwood and Langdon avenues, the exchange was constructed in the 1920s as Cincinnati & Suburban Bell rapidly expanded its telephone network throughout Greater Cincinnati. Designed by prominent Cincinnati architect Harry Hake, the building shows how even a highly functional piece of communications infrastructure could be designed with architectural distinction.
The Norwood Exchange played an important role in the evolution of telephone service in the region. In 1930, Norwood became the first exchange in the Cincinnati & Suburban Bell system to convert to dial telephone service, allowing thousands of customers to place local calls without going through an operator.
The building is also part of the legacy of Harry Hake, one of Cincinnatiโs most prolific 20th-century architects, whose work can be found throughout the region.
Today, the Norwood Exchange is a reminder that the infrastructure behind everyday life has a history, too. Buildings like this tell the story of changing technology, growing communities, and the systems that connected Greater Cincinnati to one another.
Its National Register listing recognizes both the architectural significance of the building and its important role in the development of modern communications in Greater Cincinnati.
Congratulations to the Cincinnati & Suburban Bell Telephone Company Norwood Exchange on this national recognition!

For 50 years, Oktoberfest Zinzinnati has been celebrating Cincinnatiโs German cultural heritage through food, b**r, music, and dancing.
Few American cities have German heritage as deep or as influential as Cincinnatiโsโa place where German language, architecture, music, food, and b**r shaped nearly every aspect of daily life. That legacy is still visible today in neighborhoods like Over-the-Rhine, where innovative brewers used underground lagering tunnels to store and perfect their b**rs before modern refrigeration existed.
In 1975, the German-American Citizens League proposed creating a citywide Oktoberfest celebration as part of Americaโs Bicentennial festivities in 1976. That festival has grown into America's largest Oktoberfest, bringing a record 808,300 attendees last year.
