Think your voice doesn’t matter in local government?

It does. The problem is most people never see the conversations where decisions are actually made.

That’s where Cincinnati Documenters come in.

We train community members to attend public meetings, take notes, and share what’s happening…so everyone has access to the information that affects their neighborhoods.

If you’ve ever wanted to make a difference without running for office, this is your chance.

Join our FREE virtual orientation and see how you can get paid to make local government more transparent.

Sign up today.

Think city government takes the summer off? Think again. ☀️🏛️

While many people are on vacation, the conversations shaping Cincinnati are still happening and Cincinnati Documenters are still in the room.

Over the last month, our Documenters have covered conversations about:
📚 Protecting school social workers in Cincinnati Public Schools.
🏙️ Efforts to keep downtown clean, welcoming, and safe with this month full of events.
🎉 Programs like Rec at Night that are bringing neighborhoods together through free summer activities.

These aren’t just meetings—they’re decisions that affect our schools, neighborhoods, and everyday lives.

Want to see how local government really works? Or help make public meetings more accessible to your community?

Join us for our Summer Documenters Meetup on Saturday, July 25 from 11-2pm at Mom ‘n’ em Coffee in Madisonville. Whether you’re curious about becoming a Documenter or you’ve already covered meetings, we’d love to meet you, swap stories, and talk about what’s ahead before the busy fall season begins.

🥧 How does Cincinnati decide where your tax dollars go?

From police and fire services to parks, recreation, public works, and neighborhood improvements, the city budget impacts nearly every part of daily life.

But who decides how the money gets spent? Where does the funding come from? And what exactly is that "train money" everyone keeps talking about?

We've broken it all down into a simple, easy-to-understand guide.

Swipe through to learn:
• What city revenue is
• The difference between operating and capital budgets
• Where railroad sale funds are being invested
• Who influences budget decisions
• How residents can participate in the process

The budget may sound complicated, but it affects all of us—and your voice matters.

💭 After looking through the slides, what would you prioritize if you were helping write Cincinnati's budget? Comment below.

🏳️‍🌈 Cincinnati made history with the creation of its first LGBTQIA+ Commission — a meaningful step toward representation and inclusion
But Documenters didn’t stop at the celebration.

📝 They raised important follow‑up questions:
Why were multiple reports, ordinances, and motions listed on the agenda but never addressed?

⁉️Why was the City Manager absent without acknowledgment during a meeting where her role was expected to be central?

⁉️And perhaps most importantly — when public comment is critical, but the meeting tone is celebratory… is council truly listening to its residents?

These questions matter because they speak to transparency, accountability, and trust in local government.
