On Friday, an unbelievable case finally broke in the favor of Charles Moore in , freeing him after 30 years in prison. You almost have to read all of this to believe it.

This incredible piece of reporting from HBO Documentary Films reveals from incarcerated men themselves using contraband phones to document and details accounts of abuse and systemic failures within Alabama's system that have resulted in the death of prisoners at the hands of guards. A conversation will follow with Alex Duran, a co-producer of the documentary. The Ohio Justice & Policy center is also helping present the event.

Tuesday was the big day for Thomas Clardy of , but we don't know what to call it. Re-Freedom Day, maybe? A judge decided Clardy was in 2023 after he had served 17 years in prison. He was released. But two years later, an appellate court overturned that ruling, and Clardy -- with a spotless record in those two years -- was forced to return to prison. Finally this summer, Tennessee's governor decided to grant him clemency, clearing the way for his release. Thomas was able to return into the welcoming arms of his family on Tuesday, including his young daughter whose name is Innocence.

The county sheriff who was at the scene of the murders that sent OIP client Tyrone Noling to 30 years ago has spoken out strongly for granting him clemency. He shared his views and his experiences in this column on Yahoo! News.

"The evidence of Noling's innocence is so overwhelming, and the official misconduct that put him on death row is so egregious. Therefore, only a full pardon will suffice," writes former Portage County Sheriff P. Ken Howe. "I should know. I was at the initial crime scene, and I am the sheriff who headed the office that worked on this case."

Last month, the Ohio Parole Board voted to recommend clemency in Tyrone's case to Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine.

OIP Director of Policy and Engagement Pierce Reed had a chance to address more than 125 law enforcement officials from around the state this month at the annual conference of the Ohio Identification Officers Association in Columbus. The group consists of crime scene investigators, analysts, law enforcement agents and others involved in the investigative aspects of work. Pierce's presentation, "Shared Challenges, Shared Successes," focused on the causes of , an overview of pending legislation that impacts wrongful conviction work, and the shared goals of keeping innocent people out of prison.

OIP has been heavily involved in supporting the growth of the international movement, including supporting the Taiwan Innocence Project. That organization believes they have identified a case that resulted in the worst of all possible outcomes -- an innocent man being put to death. As this story explains, Lu Cheng was executed in 2000, but with a slew of new information developed, his family still awaits 26 year later an outcome affirming his .
