These are PAR can lights--the same style of aluminum barrel spotlight used for decades in theaters, concert stages, and clubs to wash a room in colored light. The octagonal frame on front holds a gel filter, letting the operator swap in different colors to set the mood. We've got vintage soapstone lab tables 🧪 in stock at Building Value!

Before it was a countertop trend, soapstone had a job to do: surviving chemistry class. This natural metamorphic stone gets its soft, "soapy" feel from the mineral talc, but don't let the softness fool you. Soapstone is dense, nonporous, and chemically inert, meaning acids, bases, and solvents won't harm or etch it.

It's also an excellent heat conductor, able to handle Bunsen burners and hot glassware without any damage. That combination made it the go-to material for chemistry lab benchtops in schools across the country for generations.

We've got 6 of these tables in stock, salvaged straight from an old high school chemistry lab. The same slabs students once ran experiments on, now ready for a second life. Some have the soapstone top separated from the wooden base, which actually makes them easier to transport if you're hauling one home yourself.

Whether you want a rugged workbench, a potting table, or a genuinely one-of-a-kind kitchen island top, these have decades of durability already built in (and a great story to go with it.)
