I always feel a little bad on Discovery Calls...
I ask a LOT of questions and sometimes I feel like I'm interrogating people. :p
But, if I don't thing I won't understand how to best help and even if we would be a good fit.
But for me, it's a lot of fun. It's just a 30-minute Google Meet call, but I love all the people I get to talk with and the cool things that people are doing here in the greater Cincinnati/NKY area.
A single strong episode reads as a fluke. Two or three, and people start to see a pattern worth following. That's what actually earns a subscribe, not one good episode but proof that more is coming and it'll be worth it.
Before anything gets locked in, we want you to actually see the studio.
Sit in the chairs, get a feel for what recording here could look like, start imagining the setup. Maybe it's a different wall, maybe the lights change to match your brand. That's the point of being here in person instead of just talking about it.
Everyone says they hate hearing their own voice played back. A large format microphone changes that, because it captures the depth you hear internally when you speak. Small wireless mics used by most video agencies give you a thinner, lighter version of yourself. Clients who record here almost never say they hate the sound of their voice, and that's not an accident.
Being good at something and needing it are two different things. We've had discovery calls where someone would clearly enjoy podcasting and could pull it off easily, but it wasn't solving their actual problem. If you're going to invest in video podcasting, it has to be the right tool, not just an interesting one.
Pro tip: don't post your first episode right away!
It's really important to build up a bank of episodes so that when life get's crazy or you can't schedule that guest, you have some breathing room and you are able to stay consistent.
Are you thinking about starting a podcast? Here's a thought: launch with 3 episodes.
When someone stumbles onto an established podcast, they can binge episodes if they love the content. If it's a new one, it can be like each new episode of Ted Lasso...you want more, but you have to wait at least a week!
But, if you launch with at least 3 episodes, especially for a new show, it gives your audience more of an idea of what they can expect.
We did this with the Cincinnati Podcast Studio Podcast, and we're really stoked we did!
We just like seeing people win. :)
Some clients walk in with deep expertise already, someone with a PhD on their marketing team, for example. They need less from us on the consultation side and more of a true partnership. We give away advice for free constantly regardless. But if you want a formal sit-down to map out topics and direction, that's exactly what creative consultation is for.
We hear this a lot from clients who considered building an at-home studio. There's something to the ritual of driving somewhere, getting into the right headspace, and then walking away afterward. It separates recording from the rest of your day, instead of doing it from the same desk you never leave.
The studio kickoff is your first in-person session, a couple hours to knock out set design and record your first episode. Most shows land on one consistent look, so we take time to set it up right.
And if that first episode isn't your best? That's actually normal. It always gets better from there. :)
