Case Comprehensive Cancer Center Community Advisory Board Member and America’s Favorite Barber Waverly Willis is presenting an inspirational Ted Style Talk at our annual Scientific Retreat sharing the great advocacy work that he does through his barbershop Urban Kutz Barbershop and his organization The Urban Barber Association. The title of his talk, ‘Don’t Open a Business to Make Money Open Your Business to Make a Difference.” We can say for a fact that Waverly makes a significant difference throughout the community and we are grateful and proud to call him a partner and friend.

Excited to be at our annual Scientific Retreat that brings together researchers, clinicians and community partners. A big thank you to our community partners and Community Advisory Board members for being here to share information about their impactful programs and services for cancer awareness and screening and for those coping with a cancer diagnosis.

Researchers at Case CCC have found that the structure of collagen may provide clues about how triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) could progress, linked to cancer recurrence and survival. Case CCC and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine researchers have identified a rare type of small cell lung cancer that may behave differently from other forms of the disease, and may respond differently to certain treatments.

Case CCC researchers have discovered a new way to help the body rebuild blood cells after bone marrow transplants. Their research found that histamine (a chemical involved in allergic reactions) can slow the production of new blood cells, and blocking its effects with a common antihistamine improved blood-cell recovery in laboratory studies.
