Cuyahoga County Public Library (CCPL) strives to help parents embrace their role as their child's first and best teacher. One way it does that is through Baby & Me Kits. When a baby is born at MetroHealth, CCPL provides families with these kits, which are filled with reading literacy recommendations and tips, rhymes, books that help families build an at-home library and a growth chart. Just as importantly, the kits are an early introduction to their local library, a welcoming place for books, programs and support as their child grows. We're proud to support this program, which provides children with early learning opportunities that are critical to their development and nurture strong connections between parents, children and their communities.

The risk of developing ovarian cancer increases with age, especially after menopause. Common symptoms of ovarian cancer include:
- Feeling full quickly when eating
- Difficulty eating
- Bloating
- Pelvic or abdominal pain
- Frequent or urgent urination
- Unexplained weight loss
- Fatigue
- Change in bowel habits, such as constipation
Currently, there is no screening test for ovarian cancer for women who do not have symptoms. Continue to schedule appointments with your provider to discuss your risk factors and any symptoms you may be experiencing.

When an infection doesn't stop, sepsis develops. Sepsis is the immune system's extreme response to infection, which destroys healthy tissue and organs. Most cases of sepsis start at home, before a patient goes to a hospital. Seek medical care immediately. Sepsis is a serious condition that can become life-threatening if not treated promptly.
Remember the acronym T.I.M.E. to check for signs of sepsis:
T β Temperature
Their temperature is higher or lower than normal
I β Infection
May have signs and symptoms of an infection
M β Mental decline
Confused, sleepy, difficult to rouse
E β Extremely ill
Severe pain, discomfort, shortness of breath
π¨ If you suspect someone has sepsis, call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room.
Everyone can reduce the risk of sepsis by:
- Practicing good handwashing, hygiene and wound care.
- Taking antibiotics only as prescribed.
- Recognizing early signs of an infection and acting fast to get treatment.
- Avoiding people with infections.
People at higher risk for sepsis, including older adults, infants, and those with chronic conditions or weakened immune systems, should talk with their provider about prevention methods.

We had a paws-itively good time at this yearβs Jog for Dogs, benefiting the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter! Not only were we a proud sponsor and participants in the race and walk event, but our team members showed up by volunteering, leading a pre-race warm-up and judging the pup contests. Thank you to the Cuyahoga County Animal Shelter for their continued partnership and for hosting an event that brings our community and fur friends together. πΎ

About 13 in every 100 U.S. men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Taking action now can help detect the disease earlier, making it more treatable. Most men will begin screenings for prostate cancer around age 55. However, factors such as family history, genetics, race and ethnicity may increase the risk of developing the disease. Men with these risk factors should talk with their provider about screenings earlier.
Early-stage symptoms of prostate cancer include:
- Blood in urine or semen.
- Pain or burning during urination.
- Problems urinating, such as a slow, weak or interrupted urinary stream or increased frequency, especially during the night.
Are you due for a screening or experiencing symptoms? Schedule an appointment now to take charge of your health. Learn more about prostate cancer: https://ow.ly/uTbg50ZLWfK
